| Pop, eweeee.. burning plastic!
Or was it pop fizz burn???
Either way, I'm sure glad I was home to unplug my monitor!
Ah burning plastic wafting through the house..
I'm wondering now that I need a new monitor.. Should I try and LCD? Is it worth the difference in price?
How about brand? It must make a difference.
^^^^^^^ Not as important right now as my video problem..
I merged the two threads so bare with me!
My old monitor blew .. I put in another..
I have no video past my boot screen..
Unless I'm in safe mode. If I'm in safe mode windows sez i have no video card. If i use remote desktop my radeon 7200 shows up.
i tried to load the new drivers, it failed because it thinks I have no video card.. |

ouch!
lcd at the low end is not bad and the desk space saving is life-style changing - now I can get all my munchies on here, I've gained at least 5kg in the last 12 months
check this out
I bought a sony m181/cpdl200 last year - 15", works great |

Probably best to stick with a CRT IHMO. I prefer LCDs (but only bought one because I got a really good deal on an 18"). Check the warranty if getting an LCDs. My had a dead pixel warranty on it, I don't know if they all do. If more than 2 adjacent subpixels (the 3 colors that make up a pixel) go out they will replace it.

i vote to stick with a crt monitor too.
lcd's arent worth the price difference, imo, unless you really need the desk space.
take your money and spend it on a nice BIG crt, in the long run it'll probably give you more bang for the buck |

My vote is on the CRT. I like plenty of screen real estate. I just can't live with a 15" monitor anymore. For the price of quality 15" LCD you can get a quality 21" CRT. I simply don't have $800 to put down for a quality decent size LCD. I can put together a whole computer for that much money.
I'm currently looking at the KDS 21" Monitor. It's decently prices at Newegg, it's got decent reviews, and I hear that KDS has great tech support and warranty. The guy over at www.virtual-hideout.net had problems with his Geforce4 and his KDS, and they walked him through how to remove a pin from the VGA connector. When the pin wouldn't come out, they went ahead and sent him a NEW one with the pin already pulled out. That's service for you. |

LCD's are supposed to be easier on your eyes but when I was shopping for a new monitor a few months ago, I simply wasn't satisfied with the sharpness of even the best LCD I looked at, so I bought another CRT.
Oh, I seem to recall you having an extra 17" floating around there somewhere? |

I personally would go with a TFT/LCD because CRT's make my head hurt...

If you play any games, go CRT. The image quality on a CRT is better and there isn't the strange blurring stuff (although some newer LCDs don't have this). Or you could shell it out for the 21" Panasonic flat screen TV/Monitor and be REALLY happy. |
