HD 6850 Radeon
Hey
So a graphics card i ordered arrived this morning, i followed a few online guides and read the instructions to install it, did that and when i insert the CD after turning the computer on it says
'unable to detect an XFX product at this time', it let's me click ok and continues anyway but then after selecting a language it says
'please go to xfxforce.com for the optimized driver'
i can hear the graphics card working because it sounds different but what do i do if it won't install via the CD?
i've gone to that site, and registered my product and downloaded something but i'm stil not sure what to do, can you help me?

Just go to the AMD website and download the AMD Radeon drivers DIRECTLY from the source. Forget about XFX's site for drivers, they all use the same drivers from AMD who makes the Radeons anyways. Heck, AMD's site might even be more up to date than what is on the CD.
Just download the full Radeon Catalyst package for the Operating system you have.
Boot the PC into windows, let it detect the new card, and install default windows drivers, may need to reboot (if it hasn't done so already), and then install the AMD drivers manually once back into windows.
If you were using Onboard video before, make sure the monitor is actually plugged into the video card.
Also make sure the video card is plugged into the Power supply (or vice versa) so its being powered.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I understand that apart from booting the pc into windows, then booting it back to windows after it's detected the card?
but earlier today someone gave me a link to that website and i put my info in the drop down boxes and downloaded what it gave me, it didn't work but maybe because i didn't reboot it, or i should have clicked 3000 series instead of 6000.
what i mean by that is in computer/system properties/display adapters it says radeon 3100 card, but on the box and on all the lables it says radeon 6850, is that normal?
should i be using 3000 option or 6000?

Do you have Onboard video? What is you exact motherboard Specs? Brand, Model?
if its saying 3100 series, that sounds like Integrated/onboard video. If its a 6800 series it should show up as that, it should be reporting its series to the OS from the cards Bios, so it should not be showing 3100 if the 6800 is installed.
You may have to go into your motherboards Bios and disable the onboard video if you have any.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Newegg.com - Foxconn A7VMX-K AM2+/AM2 AMD 780V Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Your board has onboard video, Radeon 3100.
Thats why its showing.
I'm not sure exactly Where or what section it is in, but there should be an option to at least select the PCI Express slot first when initializing or booting the PC, that should bypass the onboard video from start up, if there is a graphics card installed in the PC.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Ok and what you said earlier about my monitor being plugged into the new card, the new cards slot is too big for the monitor to fit around, so i have to plug it near the top instead, is that the trouble?
also how would i install the new graphics card to bypass the onboard one, this leaves me at step 1 again unless i've misunderstood youLast edited by jezebeth21; October 11th, 2011 at 05:58 AM.

huh?
"the new cards slot is too big for the monitor to fit around"
What slot?
Are you talking about the VGA output? If the card has Dual DVI outputs, the card should of came with a VGA to DVI adapter, you connect it to your monitor cable, and connect the DVI end to the video card.
The Cable that goes from the Video output on your Computer to the monitor, that is the monitor cable. Make sure its plugged into the video cards connections and NOT the connection on your motherboard (where you have your USB, Ethernet, Audio Jacks, etc, the monitor does not get plugged in there)
But first you need to have it plugged into that video output, start the PC, get into the BIOS, Usually hold down the delete key or whatever it says when boots up to access Bios, find some setting there that lets you choose PCIe or Onboard/integrated, set it for PCIe, then save settings, reboot. and connect the monitor cable to the video cards output, should have some display on monitor from the video card instead.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Yeah, the card didn't come with a converter so i'm having to plug my monitor cable with the keyboard and that, someone on another forum suggested a a converter for my problem aswell
we are getting somewhere atleast, so where would i go about getting the right adapter for me?
my monitor is a LG one at the top it says Flatron W2243S, and you know what card it is, i hope that means something to you i'm hopeless with these things

Are these really "micro-pigs"? I don't doubt anything these days. But, full grown hogs around here are 500 pounds. Lot's O Bacon! I buy only thick sliced because I love bacon. I cut fresh lettuce out...
