How to connect a dvi-d end onto a dvi-i cord.
I am trying to make my own adapter. I need to hook up rgb composite cords to a dvi input. I have a dvi-d cord, a dvi-i to composite adapter, and since I only need the digital and the dvi-i has the bigger ground and 4 analog prongs I should be able to splice them correct? Is the ground a common ground or could I just break off the extra 5 pins? (the ground and 4 rgb pins around it). Thanks alot!

DVI doesn't carry analog signal the same way composite or component does. And I think you have composite and component mixed up, or your explanation is too confusing.
The only common ground for DVI is for the analog section. Each digital send has its own positive and negative.

I am sorry for my limited knowledge. e a dvi-i adapter that has rgb cords on the other end. I need to plug this into a dvi-d input. I have a dvi-d cord here, can I splice them and simply leave all the analog wires un attached? I will add photos if necessary. Thank you for your time Whir!

According to the wiki link the 4 extra pins and the ground (C1-C5) are all for analog File
VI pinout.svg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . Can I simply bust off all the analog pins c1-c5. Will this work?

My only other (cheap) option is splicing a dvi-d end onto the dvi-i cord.

I honestly don't know. I've never tried to do anything like that before. I also don't know which set of pins the adapter gets its signal from.
I think you'd be better off buying the right adapter if possible. If you break off those pins, and they're the ones carrying the signal for the adapter, you're out of luck and have a broken adapter.

Ok, I will tell you what I know about it. I tried to do research on it a while back and the information was pretty inconsistent. Didn't realize it was that important, but I customized this PC with...
