    Confused about DVI

     
    Hi,

    I've just brought a new PC with a AMD Radeon™ HD 6450 graphics card. It says it has a Dual-link DVI with HDCP port.

    I'm looking at buying this monitor to go with it

    DELL Dell IN2030M 20'' (51cm) HD WLED Widescreen Monitor VGA & DVI-D (1600x900) Black : Dell Monitors | Dell UK

    It says it has a DVI-D port.

    Now I've done some research and Dual-Link DVI appears to have a different connector to Single Link DVI.

    So my question is, is a Single Link DVI monitor compatible with a Dual Link DVI graphics card, and if so what cable do I need ?

    almost all connections for consumer level graphics cards, including onboard audio, uses DVI-I outputs, which have DVI-A and DVI-D capability, so it WILL work.

    Single Link and Dual Link, have more to do with the resolution output capabilities of the video cards and monitors.

    otherwise, it will work on your monitor.
