    GTX 680 Released!

    Specs:
    Stream Processors 1536
    Texture Units 128
    ROPs 32
    Core Clock 1006MHz
Boost Clock 1058MHz *more on this below*
    Memory Clock 6.008GHz GDDR5
    Memory Bus Width 256-bit
    Frame Buffer 2GB
    TDP 195W
    Transistor Count 3.5B
    Manufacturing Process TSMC 28nm
    Launch Price $499
Taken altogether, on paper GTX 680 has roughly 195% the shader performance, 260% the texture performance, 87% of the ROP performance, and 100% of the memory bandwidth of GTX 580
GTX 680 GPU Boost Step Table
    1110MHz 1.175v
    1097MHz 1.15v
    1084MHz 1.137v
    1071MHz 1.125v
    1058MHz 1.125v
    1045MHz 1.112v
    1032MHz 1.100v
    1019MHz 1.075v
    1006MHz 1.062v
All in all, it's looks like a beast! It goes back and forth with the 7970 in most all benchmarks, but loses to the ATI counterpart in DirectCompute.
Another huge feature that the GTX 680 adds is support for 4 screens out of the box. This was something that ATI was seriously kicking the crap outta Nvidia at.

There is rumor that an even faster (GK110 core) card is going to be released in Q4, but they are rumors at best right now.

Finally some worthwhile links, been seeing the updates on FB from Nvdia, and Newegg since last night and haven't seen a damn thing of any links to buy from, or worthwhile benchmarks.

was reading the TechPowerUp Review (prefer theirs a bit more over Tom's Hardware, and Guru3D reviews.

but in some of those game benchmarks, I'm a little disappointed by the 680's performance, considering its nearly tripled core count, I know its only 2GB and the memory bus is 256, but still I expected more from it.

in some of those game benchmarks, the older Radeon 6990 and GTX 590 (vastly inferior specs on paper) actually nudge out the 680. Especially considering the extra "Issues" inherent to SLI and Crossfire (depending on conditions, almost never a truly 2 fold performance increase).

Then there is the power consumption. This is where I am impressed.

Much lower than the prior GTX 580's. And much lower than AMD's 7900's surprisingly.

Though, even last gen Nvidia's were lower in power consumption, but now there's the Performance per Watt equation that is on Nvidia's side as well.

Looking at that Image shot in your post, is that 1.8GHz the Core clock? or shader Clock?

if Core clock, well, then.... DAMN!!!

But overall, from one of the benches I read, I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be, which makes me wonder how much the lower 650 & 660's will actually be, compared to the 560/570's they replace?

$500 price tag isn't too bad though all things considering, its cheaper than most AMD 7970's, and comes damn close to the 7950's, right between both cards pricings.

Your post pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter as well

Besides power consumption, it seems like picking up a 480 for $190 wasn't a bad move, especially if the 650's and 660's perform similar for more $$.

560ti SLI setup should keep you setup for quite a while as well!

We got "Kepler" cupcakes at work today .

ShyGuy, that is core clock (although they did use liquid nitrogen cooling to get these clocks ). There's no more shader clock.

    Yup, good ole Kingp1n.
As far as performance, I think it's rather good. Considering they were originally going to call this the 670ti, and the faster Kepler is still yet to come.

As far as benchs go, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a boost to those once drivers mature a bit, they are new drivers still.

Yes, the driver team continues development and improvements always looking for ways to squeeze out more perf. We have a really good driver team, if I can say so myself .

This is actually a gpu I was fortunate enough to work on. Fortunate because it's amazing how many things have to happen in order to get a product like this out to market, and it's amazing to experience this.

I'm not saying it isn't good, but with a 3 fold Shader core/CUDA core count and vastly higher core clock speeds, I kind of expected more than a 2 fold, or at least a full 100% increase in performance, at least (in many of those benchmarks they ran). 512 vs 1536, with higher clock rates, should be at least a full 100% boost, even with the less than mature drivers. (and the lower 256-bit bus)

I know this isn't the top dog card for the series, but still.

as to drivers, I know they can improve things some, so hopefully those do get more matured and see more of a boost from these cards.

And yet the 580s are still running $380+.

Hm, I could get a pair of these 680s or fix my truck. Decisions decisions. XD

Hahahaha. I just checked newegg and they don't have a single one left in stock. XD

There are some open box 580's up right now. They'll be gone soon though I'm sure.

And Fry's has some 680's still.

I don't know if they ever did... or if they just had one of each in stock,

because as soon as they were on sale they were gone with in a matter of hours.

Nvidia needs to open up and expand on SLI... triple or quad SLI of Dual GPU cards...

THAT would be interesting to see... assuming you were running that high of a resolution.

Now if they can just Quad SLI that 1.9GHz Monster above... I'd love to see the 3DMark 11 score on that.

The fact that just that one card alone is nearly 3/4's the score of the Quad SLI setup.

SLI has always had diminishing returns, but you knew that.

I can't even imagine what you'd have to do to tax one of these. 1920x1080 on Skyrim with full settings plays pretty well on my 260 (with the 295 drivers) and that's the most demanding game I own. A 680 would probably out-fold my CPU while running the game...

Oh boy do I want one.

I think I will try to snag an open box 580 or 560 Ti though. I just can't justify $500+ on a video card on my income.

The guys at my workplace use GPUs as computational accelerators. Our stuff can can tax one of these (and then some).

I guess I need to buy my wife one for her birthday... LOL! (Married guy joke)...

BTW, I get a lot of variable frame rates on BF3 depending on how much action is going on - explosions, etc.

It that the card or lag?
