    7970 Crossfire - With Huntkey PowerSupply 900Watt

    Hi Guys,

Im wanting to add a second 7970 card to have a crossfire configuration. My processor is I5-2500K, 4GB DDR3-1600, Asrock Z68 Motherboard, and Using Huntkey 900Watt Powersupply.

    1. Will my powersupply be sufficient for crossfire configuration for a pair of 7970's. Both these 7970's will run stock, but if there is headroom with the powersupply i wouldnt mind some minor overclocking to 1125/1600.

    2. Would my CPU need to be overlocked and will it bottleneck at stock clock speeds.

    3. Also, If I need to Upgrade my powersupply because of the 7970's, then given that result it, Would I be able to use this huntkey 900Watt powersupply with 680-SLI as the Nvidia 680 Is less power efficient. Because im thinking If I have to spend money on a new power supply for Crossfire 7970's, I would be better selling my 7970's, keeping my powersupply and using 680 SLI config intead, or better yet, just buy a 690 or 7990.

    Cheers guys

Ditch the Huntkey power supply, that brand is JUNK.

those Huntkey units are known to be low quality and not worth it, much like the Ultra Brand sold in the US over here.

and to be honest the Ultra's are probably step above them.

I Know I know. I thought it was an XFX - I didnt even bother to check I was just told. Damnit, no crossfire for me - I work full time so I had my dad pick the unit up for me and order it for me, He told me it was XFX until now when I opened up the case. I was mislead. Never the less, I have done some investiagation and i Know Huntkey do not make quality products in comparison to corshair or xfx, however with the x7 Series the reviews say that its a Budget - Choice Powersupply for high end systems, and is capable of Crossfire configurations and to suffice high end wattage system requirements.

All the reviews advise that the X7 series advise it is a powerful and reliable PSU. I bet no money that it wouldnt be as good quality as a Xfx, but to save some green your saying it wouldnt be suffice for a crossfire configuration?

The PSU is considered the 'heart' of any computer... If you don't mind taking a chance on frickin up your whole system when/if it dies/spikes/under-volts... by all means go with it.
