    basic graphics question

    hi
I have ati firepro v4800 and it says that it supports 2560 x 1600 resolution. I am upgrading my monitor to 27inch that says it supports 2560 x 1440.

Will i have that latter resolution option with this graphic card. I would not want a blank border

I am only upgrading so that i can get 2550 resolution i would not want to be only able to do 1920 x 1080 on the bigger monitor.

Thanks for any advice / help

    no.....

2560x1600 is the MAXIMUM resolution it will support.

the card will only display what the max of your monitor can support.

if your using a 1080p display currently, do you have a border around it now? Doubt it, unless something is not set up right with the monitor, display drivers and OS. so why would there be a border with the card on a higher display resolution that doesn't reach the same max resolution it can with the older display?

Old monitor, 1920x1080, Max card res of 2560x1600, Border?

New monitor, 2560x1440, Max card res of 2560x1600, Border? If none above, there'd be none here too.

    thanks for reply

    Sorry i didnt make myself clear. 2550 x 1440 is 16 x 9 ratio 2550 x 1600 is 16 x 10 ratio

I guess what im asking is would my graphic card be able to do 16 x 10 ratio?

    Thanks for any help

    ....?

well, what is the max your card can support? 2560x1600... right?

so if its able to support that resolution, what does that tell you of the 16:10 ratio?

Your card as with ANY card these days for the past 10-15 years can support 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, or what ever other Ratio there is currently supported by the drivers for the card.

the black band above and below a display has more to do with what a monitor can support.

If a Monitor is a 16:10 aspect ratio display, say for example 1920x1200 resolution, and your running 1920x1080 from your card, it will display a black band above and below.

thats why that happens, if your display is 1920x1080 and you try running 1920x1200, IF the monitor lets it display it will either be resized, missing parts of the image above and beyond the top and bottom bezels, or may just not run at that res since it won't be supported by that display.

Simple answer, Yes, your video card should support the monitors resolution, if it doesn't it will be because of some setting on the monitors menus or on the video cards or windows display settings that will be causing it.
