| Radeon 7000 or Geforce 2 MX 200?
I'm looking to upgrade the graphics card on my current computer (Pentium II 400, 256 MB PC100 RAM, 8MB ATI Graphics Card). I play games (CS, DoD, Deus Ex, JKII) and therefore need a better graphics card. However, my budget is limited to 50$ - and below since I'm saving up for a new computer. I would like to get the card at Best Buy, since i do have a $30 giftcard. My search turned up these two cards from Best Buy, the Radeon 7000 and the Xtasy Geforce 2 MX 200. I'm really unsure of which to get, but ATI has been good to me so far (8MB just can't cut it anymore...). Thanks for your help.

Listen to auatech, the GF2 GTS is much better performer than both cards in the title. It costs less than $50 from newegg.

You guys--- he said he has a gift card from Best Buy. *sheesh*
My vote is for the Radeon. The new drivers are much better. (Catalyst) Of course I've never owned an Nvidia, so I'm kinda biased. ATI has always been good to me, too. (My first gamer's card was the Rage Fury Pro, running a 7500 Radeon now.)

From a look through 3D mark score it appears that the radeon gets higher score. Although it is not much.
So my vote is radeon, but if you could get the Geforce2 Gts it would be better than both.

I'd skip the GF2MX.... try the Radeon. The MX series of cards really didn't perform well.

Regards | A GF2 GTS better than a Radeon 7000? Comparable, but certainly not better? Especially at higher resolutions w/32bit color. Not too mention DVD playback.
I had both cards, and I would recommend (if you have to stick to BestBuy and your budget) to get the Radeon.

I have the GeForce. Works very well, but ran into problem and Visiontek replaced it without qualification. Very good support.
The card I have is PCI with 32MB VRAM. Good entry level card. | |
