HD 6670 in VirtualBox
Is 3D hardware acceleration in VirtualBox possible using an XFX HD 6670 1 GB? Is there any special configuring I need to do to get it to work? As is it is saying I can't run in that mode because my card and/or drivers do not support it. But I believe I have the latest ATI updates.
I'd like to test out my Ubuntu session with Unity.“Arguing with anonymous strangers on the Internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be—or to be indistinguishable from—self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time.” ― Cryptonomicon

VMware is much better. You can download VMware workstation for free, create a virtual environment then uninstall Vmware workstation and run the VMDK file in VMware player for free.

I'll give it a shot then.
I hope my graphics card can handle Unity somehow, I would like to tinker around in it. I was one of the ones against it and all but *shrugs* looks like the upcoming releases will all be on the Unity trend. Akin, in my book, to Aero. But might be fun!

It should be supported, unless its just an ATI issue. Are you running the latest version and the latest drivers? What settings are you running for your VM?
Tax its great to offer advice for another app, but why not try to help with the ones people are using? Not all of us want to swap out apps just because someone else suggests it might be better and what happens if he can't get it to work right in VMWare??
Looks like it might be a known issue as there are several posts in the VB forums with suggestions.Last edited by RicheemxX; July 17th, 2012 at 10:32 PM.

Thanks Richeem! And you're about to kill me to the point of... well.. murder. I think I fixed it.
I thought my catalyst automatically updated my graphics card drivers but apparently they didn't. They just updated and now I can click the 3D acceleration without a warning. In fact the virtualization seems to be running smoothly.
I'm sorry. I always do that. Create a thread and either answer my own question or prove I'm just a dimwit. LOL
Sorry all. I swear I'm not computer inept!!
But quick question anyway -- is there any plus side to using VMware over Oracle's virtual box? Or just preference? I know for corporate use VMware is where it's at but that is server-side for virtualizing vs. using lots of mainframes, etc. But for personal use. Any advantage to VMware over VB?“Arguing with anonymous strangers on the Internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be—or to be indistinguishable from—self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time.” ― Cryptonomicon

Just from what I've seen VMware seems to have a tad better support for some things. I've noticed a few issues getting things running with VB that I can get running with VMware. It might just be a minor settings issue on my end, it my actually be the code on the VM its hard to say.
Hey glad you got it running though.

Thanks a bunch again -- I'll give the VMware a try for the demo, my friend is a system integrator for one of the big software companies, maybe he can hook me up with it. Meantime I'll give the sample a go. I have used the free player before and will continue to.
The workstation might be better at virtualizing odd operating systems. I remember having some trouble with QNX on VB, I think VM might do it better.
Thanks again, Rasheed. :P“Arguing with anonymous strangers on the Internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be—or to be indistinguishable from—self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time.” ― Cryptonomicon
