    PCIe to PCIe 2* compatibility

My Alienware computer is about 7 years old, but still does what I need. The PNY nVidia GeForce 8500GT PCIe video card died. In looking for a replacement, I'd opt for an upgrade, but am having trouble finding any PCIe cards that are an upgrade and a brand name that I know and can trust.

Question...will a PCIe 2 work in a PCIe slot, understandably at reduced performance from what it would have in a PCIe 2 slot?
For more info, see my previous post of a couple of days ago titled "Graphics Card Failing?" at Graphics card failing? where I have posted a system configuration.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!

Thanks...on my way to the local Best Buy to buy one. Looks like EVGA GeForce GT 610 2 GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0. Was looking at 520, but there seems to be discrepancies in specs depending on where I read them, and apparently some buyers were really unhappy with it. Will try the 610 and return it if it doesn't work out.

The lower 600 series are just rebadges of the 400/500 lower end series.

For example a GT 630 is just a GT 440 model.

Same applies for the 610, just a rebadge of the 520.

GT 610 specs: GeForce GT 610 | Specifications | GeForce

GT 520 Specs: nVidia GeForce GT 520 Video Card - Reviews, Specifications, and Pictures - GPUReview.com

Its the exact same card and chip, only the cards Bios is modified to show as a GT 610, aside from that the 610 IS a 520. so absolutely NO difference between the cards.

Ended up buying a PNY GeForcce GT620 - same price as the EVGA 610, but specs looked better, and I've had PNY cards before, but never EVGA, so tend to stay with something that worked in the past. Installed and working great!

    Thanks all!

nothing wrong with EVGA, as their the Premiere brand name for Nvidia Cards,

PNY is good as well, since they used to be top dog for Nvidia's back in the day, even when EVGA was just a twinkle in its founders Eye.

PNY also makes all of Nvidia's Quadro Cards as well.

the GT 620 is just a rebadging of the GT 430 (which the GT 440/GT 630 is just a faster clocked version of the 430/620).
