Help with video card
I have a dell xps 8300 that came with an nvidia geforce gt 530 which works great, I'm trying to install a gtx 670 but have been unable to get any video out of it. My psu is 750watts and have tried re-seating the card and power cords but still no video. When I use the hdmi port on the card and boot the computer the monitor is blank and then goes to sleep.
To get video I can plug my monitor into the motherboard port and when I go into the device manager it only shows the onboard display.
I've tried installing the drivers from nvidia but it doesn't install because it cannot find compatible hardware. I hope you guys can help because I'm about out of ideas. Thanks.

Have you tried a different PCIe port by chance?

there is only one pcie port, and I have switched back to the gt 530 and video was running as soon as the computer booted up and automatically installed the drivers.

If you boot up with the onboard graphics and the 670 in the slot and then go to device manager in Windows, does it say anything about an unknown device there?

it just says Intel hd graphics, nvidia card isn't recognized.

Shyguy might have a better idea than I do. But we've covered all the basic troubleshooting, so a bad card seems likely at this point as I think the system you're putting it in should be new enough to accept it without trouble.

Which GTX 670 do you have?
most require dual 6 Pin connectors, some require a 6 & 8 Pin connectors.
What 750W PSU do you have? (did it come with the Dell, or was that added afterwards?)

The card is a EVGA Geforce GTX 670 FTW LE 2G. PSU is a Rosewill xtreme series rx750-s-b 750W. It was added later.

well that card uses a double stack 6 pin, so should be fine with that.
the Rosewill PSU... meh, not too keen on those, could be worse, could be Ultra, but maybe let JP Miller chime in on the Rosewill PSU.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

You know Rootstonian, I was doing some thinking today while riding my motorcycle. If you really want to protect yourself, get something like virtual box (free) and Ubuntu desktop and install chrome...
