    Question Graphics Card Upgrading Inquiry

    Hi,

I have this PC specs now:

    System Manufacturer: Acer
    System Model: Aspire M3970
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz (4 CPUs)
    Memory: 8192MB DDR3 RAM (2 Sticks)
Graphics Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GT 520
    PSU: 300 W

The 520 can barely run any games at High Settings so I am upgrading it to ASUS GTX 570 Direct CUII. For the PSU, I will be getting a CORSAIR AX750 (Gold).

    The question is:
Am I doing it right? Are there any special things to take note of when upgrading VGA/PSU? I suppose my case is a mid-tower case.

The PSU will have all the power cables necessary included in the package right?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to TechIMO!

Will the video card fit in your case?
It is 2 slots wide 10.5 " long.

You only need a 550watt power supply, unless you are planning on future SLI.
Can you do SLI with that board?

A good brand name 500watt can handle it, 550 is the recommendation, and they assume people will be buying crappy power supplies.

That being said, I like to go with at least min, and a brand name.

In this case, I would go with a 550watt, or 600watt Corsair, or other good brand names with the same watts.

The card needs 2-6 pin PCI-e connectors, and in that range all the good power supplies have them.

I like some of the Antecs in that range also, as the have a few more 12vwatts, than the Corsairs, in the same wattage.

750W is way overkill for your rig, one of Corsars 500-550W units will more than suffice.

or even Antec Neo Eco 520W unit.

you would maybe need that 750W if your motherboard and case were capable of Dual GTX 570's for SLI, but its not.

I'd also just get a standard GTX 570, the Asus tend to be over rated, any brand is fine, EVGA, MSI are 2 other brands I prefer over Asus.

    Which ever is cheaper.

How much are you paying for the 570 and PSU?

Where are you buying them from?
    i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Ok I guess I will settle with a 600 Watt one then. Yes I have measured the length it fits into the case. My motherboard only has one VGA slot and I don't plan to upgrade my mainboard so I won't SLI anywhere in near future. Thanks for that quick response :D

Since you said ASUS tends to be over-rated, I think I will settle with MSI (I can't find any EVGA cards in my country which is Singapore)

For MSI N570GTX 1GB DDR5 Twin Frozr II OC
It will cost me 375 SGD.

I guess for the PSU I will settle with Antec EarthWatts 550w
    which will cost 139 SGD

So total 514 SGD (From Fuwell International Hardware Retailer Shop)

    Plenty
    GeForce GTX 570 | Specifications | GeForce
    Good brand name
43 amps total on the 12 volt rail
    Antec - EA-550 Platinum

A good 500watt would run it, so you have plenty of power.
