I want this Graphics card. Is it possible?

The minimum for the card is 300 watts, and my computer has 250 watts, that has a max output of AT LEAST 270 watts. Do I have enough power for this card? I need real, and exact numbers please,

    Voltage of my computer,
    CPU CORE 1.152 V
    MEMORY CONTROLLER 3.024 V
    +3.3V 3.376 V
    +5V 5.080 V
    +12V 12.096 V
    +5V HIGH THRESHOLD 4.946 V
    CMOS BATTERY 3.040 V

    The Graphics Card I want
    Hardware | GeForce

Model Computer I have: Dell Outlet Home and Home Office | Dell

    4 GB Ram (3.2 useable)
    Motherboard model: Dell Inc. 0RY007
Intel Core Duo clocked at 2.33 ghz

Thank you soo much for your time, and once again, I need precision with these numbers.

When you say you need real and exact numbers please and are asking for 'prevision', that's impossible to ask with the info you've provided.

Anyways, there is no exact number to give out regardless as a pc's power draw changes constantly - it's not a set amount. However, you can determine a peak power draw easy enough, in which I highly suggest the following

    eXtreme Power Supply Calculator

Besides, from your own link it shows the card has a maximum of 25watts power draw, which is sipping power as far as gpu's go.

What else do you have on your computer?

Any external devices drawing power from your pc?

More importantly, though it's a dell (who are notorious for bad psu's just meeting the minimum requirements) if you open up the case what is the make and the model of the power supply as well as the amps on the +12v rail?

Also a Geforce 405 is a rather very low end card, what is the purpose of this upgrade? For general use you are not going to see a noticeable difference from onboard and for gaming it's not worth it at all assuming this isn't a free card.

I am looking for very basic features. And believe me, I am aware the card is not that great. All I want is a couple features my integrated chipset does not have, such as Hardware T&L and Cell Shade 2 and Vertex Shade 2. I am not looking for an amazing video card. And I apologize, you are right about the external devices. I have a N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter
WNDA3100, Microsoft Lifecam v3000, Mac Keyboard with no specific model (5v), Mouse (5V). For the webcam and adapter I cannot find how much they consume. Forget the precision, I just need to know if it's "possible" to use this card. Forget precision, I meant simply more precision than a simple yes or no answer. I know my Power Supply at least gets 270 Watt PSU output.

Ok, if that's the setup you are using you are perfectly fine.

Realistically, replacing the psu is the smartest option regardless of an upgrade, but a 405 is not going to nearly pull enough juice to make a noticeable dent over what is in there already.

I've run a amd 6670 on a 250w no name brand before and it was fine for a while (not suggested though) and used for gaming until I swapped it ouf for a 300w Seasonic psu.

That card uses over double the power of the 405 and the rest of the system it was installed on was a bit more power hungry than yours as as well so you are perfectly ok on it.

Are you based in the US?

Geeks.com has some good deals on similar cards as well for cheap

    Power Supply

I want to get a GeForce 405 Graphics card. It is required a 300 Watt Power supply. I have determined that I have powerful enough PSU, but I am looking for a better one that fits this model computer Inspiron 530s Desktop Details | Dell. I have done exact measurements the power supply would have to be 5.5inx3inx2.5in (LengthxWidthxHeight) No bigger in any direction, but can certainly be smaller.
    Thanks

Hate to say it but as expected it's a junk brand with very low amps on the +12v rail.

Again, it will run I'm sure, but I do not trust it and would replace it as soon as you can with a more reliable brand.

going to be hard to find one, thats a Slim case, and their pretty much proprietary in design.

The only other option would be to buy a cheap normal size case (Mini Tower) and cheap quality brand PSU, like a 300W Antec or FSP, and transplant the whole system in to the new case.

Threads merged as they are related.

Those low end geforce card only use about 25w of power so its very possible that even with that 250w psu you'll be able to run it just fine.

Thank you for merging the two Rich, I just was typing out a lengthy reply advising the same and giving out advice on it.

So I appreciate the merge but hate you for doing it when you did, it wiped my whole post lol

This said, it's actually a tfx psu looking at replacements online. A good 300w seasonic can be had for 45 bucks from the egg (Newegg.com - SeaSonic SS-300TFX Bronze 300W TFX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies) or if you want a little more head room you can throw in the 'gold' efficiency 350w version Newegg.com - SeaSonic SS-350TGM Bulk 350W TFX12V (v2.31) 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

Both are Seasonics of course and would be a good upgrade.

However to be honest, if willing to spend 70 bucks on a psu it'd be best just to swap out the case to something more roomy and get a proper quality atx psu.

This gives you more upgrade room, a better psu standard and a lot better cooling.

But if you just are wanting it for the sake of the 405, that 300w seasonic is great and the cheapest route.
