    Wink A Gfx card in Need.

    Nead a gfx card that is

    a) low-profile;
    b) needs 300W or less;
    c) can be 512 Mbs or even 256Mb as not intended for gaming but to take load off CPU (Core 2 Duo).
    d) should have at least two connecters, preferably one of which is an HDMI but not an absolute necessity;
    e) can use two brackets for connecters.

    DOOOOG

    PS. Low-profile cards don't seem to list their PSU requirements where I can easily see. Maybe because they go into cases with Micro ATX PSUs which are usually low-powered.

    budget? Actual needs? (listing that it needs to take the load off the CPU doesn't say much)

    The best card that 300w will support under $200.

    Three connecters on two small brackets is better than two on one small bracket, preferably with an HDMI and DVI because most of my monitors have that. DP not necesary. Dual monitor capable. A modern card preferably in regards to level of DirectX and Shader in case I ever need it, but the E-series core 2 duo is a low-level cpu. Of course, I may one day move it. Fan rather than mega-heatsink cooling design. No matter whether nVidia or AMD. PCI-E X 16. Computer has only one such slot.

    I tend to move parts to other computers when I upgrade one; I use the removed part to improve another less capable computer by adding storage or vidcard etc.

    WOOPS while writing this I realized I have a low-profile pci-e 16 low profile vidcard on an HTPC with a 4" hight that I wanted to upgrade if I could as well as install a vidcard for the CAAT's Desktop horizontal computer as above. So maybe I can pull a switcheroo.

    The card is an nVidia GS7600 GS which is compared to an X1600pro and is shader 2 and DirectX 9 so an old model. It sits on a 275 psu so it should work.

    But I would go higher on the vidcard and would like it to support VIVO if possible (not likely for low profile) or maybe I need a TV tuner/capture card on PCIE X 1 as the DVB-T tuner card was removed because it is not USA standard. Two brackets slots are available with pcieX1 and PCI. Combined up to $350.

    So treatment plan is to upgrade the media machine with a new low profile modern gfx card and maybe a tuner/capture card and use the liberated 7600GS vidcard for the mostly text computer which might stand an older model gfx.

    for a bit over $200, you could get 2 of these:

    Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100357LP Radeon HD 7750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card

    Or 2 of these:

    Newegg.com - HIS iCooler H775FN1G Radeon HD 7750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

    Or just one of those for yourself, and one of these for the CAAT

    Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card (100326LP )

    Newegg.com - HIS H667FN1G Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

    Funny thing is, the 7750 uses 10W less power than the GDDR5 6670, and yet is a more powerful GPU.

    Normally I recommend, like most here, to grab a good quality PSU, but these cards run on low enough wattage that they shouldn't be a huge power draw on an OEM 300W range PSU.
