Is my anti aliasing good?
In light of this this thread I was wondering if I had AA problems or not. I simply can't tell. Uploaded is Call of duty black ops, Call of duty 4 and Battlefield 2's AIX mod. My current setting is AA 8.

1st Image I can see some on the Banners and a little on the car windows.
2nd one, don't see much, just a bit on the floor/deck, and ship crane masts.
and 3rd not a bit.
What resolutions are your running? and how big is your monitor?
are they all the same as the images, 1024x768?
Overall its not that bad, much more noticeable in that other persons thread, the images.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

My monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050. It's a 20" wide screen. Yeah, all the games are in 1024x768.

Running at your monitor's native resolution will help. Is there a reason why you only run at 1024x768? Can your computer not run the games at a higher res smoothly?
If you don't mind the jagged edges in games, or don't even notice them, then its best to run with AA off as you gain a higher frame rate.

I just turned up the AA to 16 CSAA and in call of duty black ops I turned AA on to 8 and set the resolution to that of my monitor's. I also set the resolution in Call of duty 4 to my native resolution. In BF2 I can't set the native resolution.

agreed, running at lower than your monitors resolution can induce the jagged edges as well.
your 560 Ti shouldn't have any problems running the games at your monitors native resolution, and should be able to max out those games or pretty darn close with still very playable frame rates.
but as Biz said, if you don't mind the jagged edges, then turn AA off, and get a small frame rate bump.
Most games now days don't take that much of a hit with AA on, at least not at 2x or 4x, 8x sometimes, but I have seen games run at 8x AA, and with it off and almost not frame rate hits as well.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Well since I turned the AA to 16 CSAA and played Black ops for a bit I didn't notice any frame rate problems. I still see jagged edges in the banners though.

Not sure with COD4, but I know BF2, initially doesn't have most modern Wide Screen resolutions, there was some sort of way to hack the game so to speak, more like tweak it, to enable it to support most newer HD resolutions.
I know years ago, I reinstalled BF2 and couldn't get it to run anything beyond 1440x900 if I remember, I had to play the game in 1600x1200 or similar, in order to play it full screen.
I forget how to enable the Widescreen Resolutions, but should be able to good it.
COD4, not sure I think there was a way to run that as well.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

In the Nvidia control panel, you may have it set to ignore in game AA settings and have it set to off.
In the Nvidia control center make sure it is selected to allow applications to control the AA settings, or manually adjust the AA setting yourself in the Nvidia control panel. (Whatever you have set there overrides what you have set in a game).

Yes, the banners move. Here's what Black ops looks like now and here are my settings.

That looks better. There are still jagges on the banners, but they are much smaller.
You can try changing it to 16xQ CSAA to see if the jagges get any smaller. (Q CSAA uses twice as many sample points as regular CSAA so you may see a performance hit)
Here is a quick comparison I just did of the built in FXAA in Borderlands 2 on my laptop. In Borderlands 2, whether or not AA is on or off is very noticeable.

Metro 2033 max settings (AAA Analytical Anti Aliasing set to on, instead of MSAA 4x setting, the latter should of had a bit bigger hit in frame rates, but everything else was set at the Very High Settings option)
couldn't really see too much Aliasing going on even with the base AAA setting.
Might need to enable 1080p video quality to view it best.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Wow! That is a scary game. And you were trapped!
This is at 16xQ.

that looks better yet, still can see some edges on the banners and car window frame, but with animations and movement, its not going to be that noticeable, especially in an action game like that.
as to Metro, actually I wasn't trapped, in that scene/part I was following some guy down the train/mine cart like tunnel, and I found that whole in the wall, and went in, and that is where I started the video recording, it was just some little nook area along the way to find some ammo and weapon... fell down the rats tunnel and died at the end.
Couldn't for the life of me figure out where that 2nd rat went...
but the rendering and action in that part is nothing compared to other parts of the game, does a much better job for the scary action than even Doom 3 had sometimes.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Don't see an improvement with 16xQ over 16x, but I wasn't expecting anything as 16x already looks about as good as AA can get.
You may even be able to see the same kind of image quality at 8x or 8xQ. But if your frame rate is still smooth using 16x, then you can keep it at that and only lower it when you play a game where you notice the frame rate dropping.

Well here's the action in the first level of Black Ops.

Can't view the vid, but 16x should clean it up nicely. However, there comes a point where jaggies can only further be cleaned up with a higher resolution.
I'd rather run 1920x1028 w/ 2x AA then 1680x1050 w/ 4x (or 8x) aa for example.Main PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit
File Server: AMD Opteron 180 / 3gb DDR400 / Nvidia 6200 / WinXP Home 32bit / Lubuntu 12.10
Laptop: HP-Compaq nc8430/ Intel CoreDuo T2400 / 2gb DDR2 667/ Ati x1600 / WinXP Pro 32bit

But 1680x1050 is my native resolution.

Did they? That's one of the questions I would like answered. I don't know. I would think that if I were talking to a suspect who was being investigated for a triple homicide where the victims all...
