You have to keep in mind that nVidia cards go for maximum fps, and ATI cards are based on perfecting the image - it's personal preference, if you choose the Radeon 8500 or GF4 Ti4200.
I personally like ATI cards because I have a 19'' monitor, and they out preform nVidia cards at high resolutions. |

Can someone get me a bench of the Radeon 8500 (any flavor)outperforming the Ti4200 at any resolution/setting, except for benchmarks with Anisotropic Filtering? I can't seem to find one. Also the Radeon's only faster at Anisotropic because they use different filtering methods (Nvidia's offers better filtering quality, and thus takes more of a performance hit).
I always thought that the Radeon 8500 had trouble matching up with the GF3 Ti500, let alone outperform the GF4 Ti4200, but since two people in this thread say it does, maybe I'm missing something |

well, I can't provide you benchmarks, but I've been told at nearly every computer store I go to, that the Ti4200's are a lot better then the 8500's.
The GF3 Ti500 is pretty comparable to the 8500.
NOTE: that's not through my research, I'm repeating what I've been told, so I could be wrong.
But, did I do a bad thing by buying my VisionTek Xtasy Geforce4 MX440 DDR?
I was budget limited, and it costed $99 at Best Buy. But I needed something with a little power behind it so I could run Everquest Shadows of Luclin & Morrowind. |

Is it true that VisionTek just went out of business?
Regarding Radeon - I will never buy another ATI! Been burned too many times by them... |

yeah, there was a thread on TechIMO somewhere about it that had a link to the article.
Kinda sad... they made good quality cards. |

An ATI Radeon 8500 LE will SMOKE a Geforce 3 Ti 500, on the other hand a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 will kill a Radeon 8500, my opinion is get an XFX Geforce 4 Ti 4200 and Overclock it. Go to www.newegg.com they have a good price on the 128 mb model that amazingly has a coreclock of 250 mhz and a memory clock of 500 mhz, I can imagine this should at least overclock to Ti 4400 spec with the greatest of ease.
here are the Specs for the XFX Ti 4200
XFX (PINE TECHNOLOGY) GF4 Ti4200 128MB 128 bit TV-OUT & DVI RETAIL Parts # PVT25ANA
Specifications:
GPU: NVIDIAŽ Geforce4 Ti 4200 256 bit graphics accelerator
MEM: 128MB DDR
GPU Frequency(MHz): 250
Graphics Core: 256-bit
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec): 8
Fill Rate (texels/sec.): 4 billion
Effective Memory Clock Rate (MHz): 500
RAMDACs (MHz) (each have 2 RAMDAC): 350
and heres the link to it http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...tby=14&order=1
wish you the best d00d |

Well, I own both the Grforce 4 TI 4200 and Radeon 8500. And a Geforce 4 TI 4400, GF3 TI 200, GF2MX500, Voodoo 5 5500, TNT2Ultra, etc...
I don't have pics of my benches, but the 8500 always came in between the 4200 and the 4400. | |
