My 2 cents..
Had a Gef4mx440, it got fried, and picked up the Radeon 8500. I love it. It does games a whole lot better. I'm not much of gamer or vid card tweaking, but I noticed a difference.
Also, I use it for tv-out, and the ati is head and shoulders ahead of nvidia. Switches to multiple monitors/TV quickly, and, can also be set on theater mode, so it shows on TV from the media player, and you can still do other things on the monitor. pretty slick...
good luck on your choice, not sure on the non-mx, couldn't afford those, needed to stay at about 100, and got the 8500 for 105.

hey prexaspes if u read this please tell me the answer cause u seem like a person that could answer it owning those cards u have and for the ge4ti4200 and radeon 8500what do u have 64 or 128?
is it worth the extra money to get a geforce4 ti 4200 128mb instead of the 64mb? i checked out tomshardware and i didnt see the 64mb there. anyways my main question is if the ti 4200 64mb is better then the radeon 8500 128mb or the 64mb?

Where were all you folks when I posted for a $200 or less video
card recommendation. . .Jeez!
- Bill(feeling very dejected w/the exception of those two members
who responded to my cries of help) hehe!
As long as we're here. . .will a retail Radeon 8500 128MB smoke
an Xtasy 6564 GF3 Ti 200 64MB? Let's say in QuakeIII? Thanks.

yeah, you could say that the 8500 would smoke the Gf3 ti200...
The Gf3 ti500 would come a little closer to what the 8500 is, but the 8500 would (probably) be faster... |

I was doing some research and initally I wanted a GF4Ti4200, but now I switched to 4400. I was sick of all those different models with all kinds of memory. 4400 can be had for $185 now. It is very close to 4200 128MB models.
4400 runs at 275/550
4200 runs at 250/444
For a few bucks it's worth it. Price difference is only $20-$25 right now. I'm not a big fan of overclocking, but the 4400 is going to come with better memory and more potential. A few months ago 4200 was a much better deal, but now with the prices so close it's worth to step up. I'm waiting till it hits $150(that's the most I'll spend on a video card) and I'm getting one. Forget the 64MB models, it's not a good buy for the future. |
