| Choosing the right G4 Card
Im thinking of moving away my trusty (unssuported Voodoo 5), for a Nvidia Geforce 4(at last they got me), Im thinking on the following cards:
ABIT SILURO GF4 TI4200 128MB DDR $ 170
GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 4 Ti 4200, 4ns, 128MB DDR $165
VISIONTEK Xtasy GeForce4 Ti 4200 ( 128MB ) $198
so fire up your thoughts whats the best card.. If yoy know another one that its not in the list let me know....
I have a P3 800 EB PC 133MHZ, that will be replaced soon maybe for an Athlon XP who knows... |

it doesnt really matter the brand of the card
all that matters is the chipset (same on all of them)
or any special features you want to look for

sometimes brand does matter .. =) some card makers use slower ram.. or some put better heatsinks on their cards..
best thing to do though.. look at user reviews of the cards.. and then go by price.. I'd stick wtih the 4200 for now.. as the realy true big bad wolf of vid will be out in the next coming months.. so don't spend to big.. or u might find yourself drooling over the latest greatest asking how the bleeping heck a vid card can do that.. =)

The MSI brand card comes with a lot of software... but I hear it's noisier than other brands. The Gainward brand is known for it's overclocking abilities. Newegg.com sells a "guaranteed overclockable" version.
I personally think the brand does matter as well as 128MB vs. 64MB with a faster clock speed. Many would take 64MB cards over the 128MB version for this reason.
Out of the 3 you chose, I'd take the Gainward for its value.

I had to look over them again twice before I posted this to make sure I wasn't missing something. I agree though, I would stick with the 4200!

well as threads like this go.. and since he did ask to list cards that he missed.. someone was likely to pop in and say get a 4400 or a 4600.. so as a pre-emptive.. I posted before hand saying to stick with the 4200 line of GF4 cards.. and then gave my reason behind that.. that being it isn't prudent to buy a higher priced version of the GF4 card at the moment.. with the new line coming out in the next few months.. that will make these current cards look like kids toys.. =) |

I'm trying to make the same choice right now. How about Leadtek's G4? I know I want a g4 ti4200, probably 128mb, and I like the vivo feature.
