Direct3d/OpenGl problems...drivers??
Okay I just built a system about 3 weeks ago. For about a week everything work working excellently, then I started having problems with my graphics card and games. I'll post my system specs first, but I don't think they'll be too relevent.
AMD XP 1800
Epox 8kha+ (via 266A)
Gainward Geforce4 4200 64mb
Windows 98SE
As I mentioned everything was working fine, but now something's screwed up. About 2/3rds of the time when I attempt to run a game the computer freezes on trying to start it. On a few games I'm able to back out using alt+ctrl+delete to back out of it, but on some I have to reboot. On Jedi Knight II, I used the troubleshooting mode to see that it is giving me a "cannot open glide3d.xxx" messege (or something to that effect, the important thing is that it can't open glide), and on a couple of other games when I use thier video configuration tools, it will not recognise my card half the time. I'm thinking that somehow my drivers got screwed up from something I've installed, since everything was working fine for a while. If that computer did not have internet access, and it won't have for another couple of weeks, I would have just downloaded the most recent drivers from nvidia.
I also have problems opening .mpg files with windows media player often, and it seems to be related to whether or not my games will run. Besides the gaming and video files, there is nothign wrong with the display, which makes me think it is more of a windows/drivers problem than a problem with the actual hardware on the card.
Anyway if anybody has had this problem or a similar one and could advise me on what to do (right now i'm leaning towards reformatting and installing the newest drivers later on) or can explain to me what is wrong, I would appreciate it GREATLY.This space available for rent, inquire within.

Glide is 3dfx specific rendering mode. You can't do that with your nvidia card.
Have you setup the latest directx?

Whoops, that should be "opengl.xxx" sorry, I had my mind somewhere else when I was typing it. Nod, glide is for 3dfx

Opengl couldn't run when I had dualmonitor setup. Someone here told me to disable the secondary monitor when running opengl and it worked.
However, now I'm running wxp and it works even with dualmonitor setup (back then I had w2k).
