Need Help!!!
Am building a system using my replaced Asus A7V133 and Athlon 1.33 processor. 512 megs of PC133 Ram. Fresh install of Win98SE.
Purchased a Aopen GeForce4 MX440 64Meg AGP card for it because am going to sell this system.
The problems I am having are when the system boots up, the monitor "clicks" on and off like it is waking up from sleep mode, and also when I go into the Vid card properties, and select the "Open GL Settings" tab, the monitor does the same thing!
Now it does this with another monitor too, so its not that. I have VIA chipset drivers installed, along with the 2730 Detonator drivers. Have also tried a later set of dets too and still the same result.
If I remove the MX440 and install an old KyroII card, everything is fine. And I have BIOS set to 4x with the MX440 also. because when I first tried to install the MX440, it froze on boot up due to the BIOS AGP set at 1X.
I'm fresh out of ideas on this one. Anybody got some ideas? Thank you in advance!

Set the AGP to 2x. My monitor used to flicker on and off as if coming out of safe mode because I had the AGP speed set higher than the card's top speed.

I had trouble with 2 GF cards. My problem was fixed after hours of trying everything. The thing that fixed it was loading a different detonator driver. It seemed like my set up didn't like the one I was loading. It is worth a try.

Doesn't that GF card have some issues with certain chipsets ?

K7VMA (VT8365/A & VT82C686A/B Chipset)
GF3 Ti4200

Set the AGP in BIOS to 2X. No help. Replaced VIA chipset drivers to the 4.43 set, and the detonator drivers to 40.72. No change.

Couldn't it be the refresh settings???
Try changing refresh settings for the resolution you are using in windows.! Set it to 60hz first then keep incrementing it until you reach a safe setting (for your eyes) of at least 85hz.!boo!

Refresh Rate setting changes didn't help. And not using a Flat Panel monitor. I think I will just have to cut my loss of time and send this video card back. Thanks for all your help! S!
