First time overclocking

I've never overclocked ANYTHING before.
But last night I downloaded a video card overclocking shareware program. (forgot the name)
But I messed with the settings a bit, and I was having some fun!

I went from a 3dmark score of 5510 to 5596 when I overclocked my GF4 MX440. I upped the core and memory speeds by 10.

I'm not too sure just how far i should push this thing, but if it fries, oh well. It will give me an excuse to get a better card!

BTW, can anyone point me in the direction of a nice CPU overclocking program? (preferrably a free one)

Sure, it's called BIOS. It comes free with every motherboard!

BTW, aside from the benchmarking scores going up (I'm not a big numbers fan), did you notice any real visual difference? Or was this just all about higher scores?

Congrats on the successful overclock! I remember the first time I tried pushing my video card to the limits...man I was so afraid I would burn it up! Good job...

I may have to give that coolbits a try. It looks similar to what I have.

But anyways, I didn't play a game after I overclocked, It was late, so I just ran the 3dmark program and called it good.
I'm gonna do some more tweaking and play some games to see what happens.

As far as overclocking your CPU, how should I go about it.

I'm kinda clueless as to what voltages compliment which speeds.
Let's say if I raise my speed by 10 MHZ, should I up the voltage?

Well why don't you go ahead and spit out your system specs and we can maybe get into it a bit more. I have coolbits, its all you really need for oc'ing you vid card the other one is NVmax. Coolbits just lets you do it in the NVidia tab, where NVmax is kinda its own thing. Anyway the easiest way to speed up your CPU is to up your FSB. Or depending on your CPU you can unlock it and use the multiplier.

What I really want to know is what is the best way to go about O'cing my CPU? And what kind of increments should I use for the speed of the FSB & the voltages.

How much more power do I need to pump into it as I increase the speed?
