| Geforce4 & monitor problem
Hi. I have a really annoying problem:
My monitor (Samsung syncmaster 171s) seems to turn off (go into green led flashing mode), or go into orange 'waiting' mode under normal operation. It happens only when there is a lot of black (or a dark colour) displayed on the screen, such as when playing a cutscene from a game, or when installing software, but it could happen at any time.
It did occur to me that it would be an OS problem, but it's happening before Windows has started - I can only get into the bios setup screen if I guess when to press the del key and turn the monior off then on again.
I have tried a new cable between the monitor and graphics card. Ive tried unplugging a load of other cards etc feeding off the PSU as I have read about power supply issues on this board.
Ive tried a clean OS install, every possible driver combination, forcing AGP 1x etc.
My last card (a GF2 GTS worked no worries at all on this system.
Any help would be totally appreciated as I am really losing the plot over this one. Thanks...
System:
ABIT KT7-RAID
duron1300@1400
MSI G4ti4200-vtp
512MB pc133
SB LIVE 5.1 |

What Hz are you running your monitor at? Maybe is cant take the refresh rate or the fps.
My monitor is pink becuase it couldn't handle the pressure from my geforce 4 440.
I'm not sure what you should have it set on tho. Soemthing high no doubt.

Thanks for this reply, yeah, I've tried various rates, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Its actually happening before I get into WindowsME. I'm thinking maybe it's a hardware fault? - my gfx card or my monitor though? - I dont have another monitor to test it out on, thats the problem.
At least I don't have a pink monitor!

Have you tried setting the adapter to defaualt in your advanced settings? My monitor would ' fall asleep' until I reset the adapter. |

sounds like your over taxing a 1x agp slot with 4-8x agp card, if thats not the problem i'd suggest checking the pin count on the monitir cable as a bent can cau se problems like this...
most of the geforce 4 440 are a 8x agp so it could be mainboard incompatibility with the card your using..... |
