So I am looking at ditching my heavy-as-he** 17in monitor (CRT). I have a Radeon 8500 128mb which can go Dual. Which would be a better upgrade (I LAN somewhat frequently)?
Two 15" LCDs or One 18" LCD? The price should be about the same.
Ideas? Is dual really awesome? |

if it was me i'd get the one big display. as cool as dual's are (and ther really are ) unless you actually use it it gets old. if both mine could run the same res i might have used it longer. but deskspace was an issue (2 crts take up quite a bit of space 1 19" 1 17" ) and i presonally would like more desktop space on one display then 2 smaller res ones. (i have issues using something other then 1600x1200) so thake everything you like/dislike into consideration. and go with what you feel is best. |

I'm with BobOmega.
One big monitor is definitely better than two small ones. I like CRT's myself. Better resolutions, better color accuracy, and definitely cheaper! I'm using a 19" now, thinking about getting a 21" or 22" and using my 19" as a second dispaly. |

If u have never gamed on a LCD.. or gamed on one for a long time.. then u should try one out first.. they are not as sharp as the CRT.. most only display 16 million colors.. and have.. a shadowing effect with fast moving objects.. making them blur.. if u play fps games this can hurt your eyes..
think before you buy.. try before you buy.. don't get caught up in the thought of a lighter smaller monitor.. unless u r willing to drop quality..
As for dual monitors.. unless you are a graphic designer.. or audio video person.. the only game that would take advantage of a second monitor is MS flight sim.. in other words.. don't waist your money.. stick with large displays. instead of 2 smaller ones.. hell if u r willing to throw down some money.., get a plasma display.. quality of a crt.. in the size of a lcd..

well, personally i would ge the 2 15", first bc i love dual monitors even for everyday use, couldnt live w/out em. second, because i think two lcd(or plasma)s would be kick@$$ in a dual setup.

Plasma, huh? What display uses plasma besides the huge TVs?
As far as the LCDs go - Is there some spec I should look for that will assist me in determining what is good or not for gaming? I appreciate the comment about obsession over weight, but desk footprint is also a significant issue in the room. I realize LCDs aren't as sharp as CRTs, but are FPSs the only major issue?
Thanks again |

sire, better check yourself with the use of foul language. the mods will come down on you for sure.
while i happen to like & use dual display boxes...for most people, one 18" is better than two 15" inches, esp when using lcds.
i run my 18" at 1280x1024 and the amount of information i can see in one screen at the higher resolution beats using a smaller 15" @ 1024x768. the dual display would only be better if you run many window apps (like a programmer, network admin, etc).
the larger single screen would also reduce eye fatigue. |

One advantage of two vs. one is: Check the warrentee times. If a single monitor breaks, that's it--but two gives you mare latitude as one wont be used as often. They can be alternated. I would hate to knock a 19' monitor off a tabe etc....spreading the risk X 2.
Also, compare the actual real-estate totals. With Crst, 2 are usually 40% or so more than one big. But the Rez has to be weighed against size. Bigger screens need higher rez,not so.?
I saw a big monitor (from Sony ?) that had "dual screens" function on one (wider ?) monitor. Musta cost a lot.
DOOOOG Still I'd prefer the one big screen or one 17" and adding a second later. |
