Display Question
Whenever I checked a monitor it stated that the "dot pitch" to .XX(.22, .26, etc) mm of a trio of 3 dots is basically a circle.
While checking out prices I found this description of a new monitor with a (Quote): "0.20mm dot pitch (Horizontal), "
Can anyone tell me what the difference is?? Because my best guess is they are cutting of 1/3 of the normal measurement by measuring across only 2 dots instead of 3, CORRECT??
Thanks in advance,
Vern

yep, marketing ploy to make their product look good. Ask them for the triad dot pitch.

Usually, a lower dot pitch means a sharper image.
Now, CRT manufacturers are using the horizontal dot pitch, instead of the diagonal dot pitch. The diagonal tends to be higher in value, which is what we're used to seeing in specs. See if you find out what the diagonal dot pitch is. If I did the math right, I think it will be about .23mm.

Thanks dunbar, EvilRick!
You guys are moving fast this morning.
That was what I was thinking. I will ask. Maybe they will actually answer.

This is NOT a marketing ploy as Dunbar suggests. Also the information in the link is inaccurate. The colored phosphors of a shadow mask line up neat columns just like an aperture grill.
Here is a much better description
In General the smaller the dot pitch the finer the image can be. The most common measure of dot pitch is the diagonal dot pitch. This is the “center to center distance between adjacent same color phosphor dot as measured in millimeters.” The diagonal measure factors both the horizontal and vertical distance between the dots and thus is an excellent measure.
While the diagonal dot pitch has historically been the measurement standard, it doesn’t work for aperture grill monitors. Aperture grille is constructed using a series of “stripes” instead of dots. Thus, there is no diagonal measure and aperture grille manufacturers quote the “stripe pitch” also known as the horizontal dot pitch. Obviously this is a shorter measure and shadow mask manufacturers responded by publishing their horizontal dot pitch to allow consumers to accurately compare between the two technologies. The horizontal measurement is an apples to apples comparison.

Should the DOT PITCH (not stripe pitch) be measured horizontally, instead of diaganoally?
The ad said the "dot pitch" was measured horizontally. NOT the stripe pitch.

Yes, like I said in my first post, the Horizontal measure is the only apples to apples comparison.

Nicely done, Jim. This clears up this discrepancy for a lot of us.
Good information. Thanks.

Bikes have never been anywhere near a priority for police, here. Most seem to be recovered as part of a search warrant for some other stolen property, after an arrest for burglaries or similar.
Do you think this was a legitimate...
