GeForce4 MX 440 AGP - Please Help!
I cannot get my new GEForce MX 440 AGP to work with my new motherboard! It has a VIA chipset and I've updated the bus drivers!
Bios has detected new card but
The system freezes up before fully loading windows
My PCI Voodoo 3 card works fine.
I would appreciate any help!
Thanks,
Bob

Did you plug it in firmly and attach the power cord tightly to the card?
Sometimes a loose card seating or loose power plug to the card can do that.

I doubt that there's a compatibility issue because nVidia is a very popular and widely used card. I am not 100% sure though.
There is a possibility that windows got corrupted. It's worth starting from scratch and loading up widows and allowing it to detect and install default drivers.
Which windows version are you using? If its XP, you shouldn't have a problem.
Before you go ahead and do anything like a format, boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 key when the BIOS screen comes on and in safe Mode, go to Control Panel and in System, remove the video card and restart the system. This will make windows detect it again.

I am using WIndows ME! I just got off the phone with Tech support for my motherboard. He suggests changing display to standard vga then remove PCI card and install new AGP card.
Do you think that might work?
Thanks,
Bob

Yes, that's a common recommendation for changing video cards. Definitely try it.
Also, what mobo are you using? Some VIA chipset mobos have problems with some video cards, especially at AGP 4x. If applicable, try disabling AGP 4x and fast writes from the BIOS.

My Motherboard is XFX P4XE-MVB (Pine Technologies). It says it supports AGP 2x and 4x.
In Bios what should I input for AGP? 2x?
Thanks,
Bob
