    Ti 4280 or 4680

albatron ti 4280 or 4680???? there is a big difference on price, but im looking for something that will last me a year.... both are 8x..... the difference i can tell is the price..... newegg.com has it for 210.00 (4680) and another albatron distributor has it for 230.00.... plus shipping and tax (damn california)... its round 260... the only problem is newegg doesnt have a warranty, the other distributor does... and i cant afford to get a broken card from newegg, and have to send it back... (damn newegg and their non return shipping policy..)

I just built a computer for my friend on the past Sunday with the 4680, and all I can tell you with a 1.8 GHz P4, TI4680, some Shuttle mobo with the i845e chipset, 256 megs PC2100 from Crucial, a 60 gig BB WD drive, and all at stock speeds he got close to 10k 3dmarks. the 4680 can do dual monitors and has VIVO (Video In Video Out) capabilities. I don't know what you would choose, but the 4680 is a very sweet card.

If you can afford the 4680 then go for it, as it is considerably faster than the 4260 and will easily last the year.

Guess I'm already outdated with my TI4200. Just built the dang machine a month ago and it's time to upgrade already.

Looks like the vid card is being bottlenecked by that CPU... I've got a Ti4400 with an XP1900+ that scores almost 11k... Both CPU and GPU stock speeds... If I overclock my CPU to 2000+ speeds, leaving the video card still at stock speeds, I score over 11k all day long.

Just make sure to look at the actual core/mem speeds. Just because it's 4800 doesn't mean it's faster then 4600.

    GF4 Ti 4200 w/ AGP 8X - Ti4200 with AGP 8X (250 MHz GPU and 500 MHz DDR Memory Clocks)
GF4 Ti 4800SE* - Ti 4400 with AGP 8X (275 MHz GPU and 550 MHz DDR Memory Clocks)
    GF4 Ti 4800* - Ti 4600 with AGP 8X (300 MHz GPU / 650 MHz DDR Memory Clocks)

Those links explain it well. Nvidia really dropped the ball on this one.

Ramon, he didn't want a super high tech computer that uses the latest technology, just good enough to play his games that he has now and that could last a year or two.. I'm pretty sure the 4680 is the 4200 core that's in the 8 layer PCB..

I thought the 4680 was the 4600 mem/core while the 4280 was the 4200 mem/core??? Oh well, if the 4680 is indeed the 4200 then its a good score for that combo.

As Camaro posted, that'd be the TI4800 which is the 4600 core on the AGP 8x.

The 4280 and 4680 is the naming by Albatron, suggesting that it uses the 4200 chip, but on the 8 Layer PCB. Where as Camaro's post, that is to show the official chips on 8x AGP. I hope that clears it up?
