    Dying Monitor Diary

    Hello.
My name is Hugo, and my Monitor is dying. Over the next few days until I get a new monitor, I will chart the decline and fall of the unit.

It's a Relisys RE770, also known as a TECO TE770, 17 inch monitor I bought a year and a half ago with £119 of my student loan (we get 3000 a year here)

The monitor was never brilliant, but it was bigger than my old 15 inch NEC Multisync M550 with built in speakers and mic.

    Thursday
The monitor erratically turns off, leaving a bright white spot in the middle of the screen. Just today, I noticed that a tiny area in the middle of the screen has now failed. It has gone black with a little red tail.
it works better when it's cold. That's fine, since it's 4degC out there and I have a personal tolerance to heat and cold.

    More later.

Sorry to hear about that, especially since it's not that old. Fortunately, a new CRT monitor can be had for relatively little money right now. Frankly, I've got a fairly mediocre monitor, about five years old, that I'd love to replace. I only wish it had a big spot in the middle.

    Dear hugo,

Well i suppose thats what you get for buying that rubbish

on a lighter note you could view it as a technological view into the past when your tv would have dissapeared into a dot.

We'll get you a new one sometime next week.

u are lucky hugo it didnt catch alight like mine. Well it was scary becasuse i had just turned my computer off. i smelt this smell getting stronger, then i look at my monitor. smoke poring out of the top. i swiched off it off at the mains and lucky it stoped. it just shows the heat going though these things (i live in england so it wasnt exactly hot weather). well it was only a year old it had a 3 year warrentee. so i phone up the company and they sent some one out in a couple of days to swich it with a nice new one now im happy. you may want to know the make SAMPO nice and cheap about £160
