Multiple Monitors

I'm trying to use a single computer to display various things on different monitors through a network. I know that there are cards out there that allow for dual or quad displays but that's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Does anybody know if there exists some kind of monitor out there that has it's own tcp/ip interface so that it could receive display data without it's own computer?

If such an animal does not exist, is there any kind of 'blackbox'-type adapter that I could use to receive data through a network and then display it onto a connected monitor?

Thanks.

Send a message via ICQ to dunbar
Win VNC is supposed to allow remote display via TCP/IP.

That has client software installed onto the remote PC, and allows a distant system to grab control from the remote PC.

Linux has a similar capability.

XFree86 (seen on Linux, mostly) has had that feature for ages.

But this requires a PC attached to each monitor right? I was wondering if I could just display different things on separate monitors (each without its own computer) through a network.

Thanks for the welcome!

i don't know of any device like that. the closest you can get is as the others have stated, you can run multiple 'windowed' views of any networked pc by running a virtual/remote client.

What you want to implement is a dumb terminal configuration over a thin client network. Check out this link for more information:

Hope this helps,
Robert Richmond

(BTW, this is more a network question than a graphics question, but I will leave it in this forum for right now.)
