| Ti 4200 64Mb vs. Ti 4200 128MB?
As I posted in this thread, I'm seeking to upgrade my video card. I find myself trying to decide between a Geforce4 Ti 4200 64Mb, or a Ti 4200 128Mb card. I've been to Tom's Hardware and studied the benchmarks, which left me even more confused than ever. In nearly every benchmark there, the 64Mb version beats the 128Mb version. I would assume that it's because the 64Mb card has a faster Memory Clock and handles 1Gb/sec more memory bandwidth than the 128Mb.
I've narrowed my choices down to either one of these cards, but I can't see the reasoning behind spending an extra $30 for the 128Mb version.
Is there really going to be a need for the extra 64Mb of memory in the near future?
Please help me out here people, everytime I go to Newegg my left mouse button keeps wanting to click on "Buy"!

Take my word for it, take the 128Mb version.
The extra 64Mb will do you more then good, and yes, games will start to use it very soon, I think UT2003 already is able to use it.
Doom3 will need even more to run perfectly at decent resolutions. LOL
I have an Asus GF4 Ti4200 128Mb and I love it, clocked the memory upto 575Mhz, so it runs faster then the 64Mb version.

Definitely go for the 128MB version. My last card was a MSI GF 4 Ti 4200 128MB. I had the memory clocked at 607 mhz. |

added memory is always a good thing. makes computers run faster, games run faster etc. think of the difference between a 64mb card and a 32mb card. |

Think of the difference between an 8mb card and a 64mb card. lol, that was crazy for me, even though it prolly isnt much around here to have a geforce4 mx420, but before it was a trident blad 8mb card, lol |

I'm pretty sure that the 128MB card will give you better future support, even if the RAM isn't quite as fast as the stuff on the 64MB card. |

If you`re taking this card and want to use it for a long time then the 128MB version is the one to choose ..
I chose the 128MB version without hesitation..
If you looked well at the benchmarks the FPS difference is not that something a human eye can catch .. so you can say 64MB version is faster but not like a way faster (just a few FPS) .. besides, future games will need the extra memory for the huge texture and then you will appreciate the bigger memory than the faster one ...
Get a good 128MB card and OC it a bit to 500MHz memory, which will do the same as 64MB version .. most cards can do this OC without a problem ..
Final word ... 128MB all the way |

I'm using a Ti4200 with 128mb right now: and it rocks. The difference seems to be in the textures, and you can really see the difference in games like Comanche 4 (the game's not brilliant, but the graphics are sweet).
I think you'll not mind the extra $30 when you just think what that memory is capable of outputting at 8xAGP.
