Ok i went ge4 4200 128 ram over a Powercolor 9700. Good choice?

Ok last night as i weighted all my options about video cards and i saw the light. I pull up Newegg site and there is the ASUS 9280TD on the front page for 149.99. I read a bunch of reviews all over the place about this card and it easy OC's to 4600 range. Well newegg is out of the PC 9700 so i say for $100 less i can grab 4600 speeds. That seems like a great deal to me. The way I look at it is going from my old system A7v133 and geforce2 gts 32 ram to this new system is going to be like drive a BMW after having a chevy chevette for 2 yrs LOL.

Of course newegg had the 9700 in stack abot an hour after i placed the order. Please tell me this is a good idea on my part, the way i look at it for 149 now i can use that card OCed till X-mas. By that time the price of 9700 pro will hopefully be in the 250 range. Let me know what you think.

Jon

I would of waited the hour and gotten the 9700. You can find one on newegg for about $230 and it overclocks higher than the 9700 Pro. Or you could of gotten the 9500 Pro and OC it to perform like a 9700 non-pro. If you can cancel that order I would recomend it. The Geforce 4 Ti are really old hat by now even if you do OC it to 4600 speeds its still gonna be slower than a stock 9500 Pro never the less a 9700. But if you plan to get a new card for christmas thats not a horrible idea. But if you got the 9700 it would of lasted you beyond christmas there for you wouldn't need to upgrade yer vid card again for a while. But if yer running a 4200 your gonna be yerning for those DX9 cards come christmas and if you want one thats not neutered (RV350, NV34 a cut up versions of their big bro's) your still gonna spend about $200. I'm know an overclocked 9700 or 9500 Pro will walk all over the RV350 and NV34. Its up to you, but new egg is a very good retailer and should take your return and exchange it for the vastly superior 9700 if you decide to go that route.

The 9500 or 9700 is a superior card but you'll be alright with that 4200! At $150 is a good buy. You will enjoy the difference in performance on your games!
If you plan to buy a card for X-mas, don't cancel the order! Stay with the geforce until then. Heck, by x-mas there should be like 4 different new cards.!

I agree with the majority of posters so far: you got a REALLY good card for what you spent, and trust me, you WON'T be disappointed. (Your reference of a BMW vs. Chevette aren't far off!)

And eagle1 is correct: by the end of 2003 there will be a bevy of new cards.
