I am after a new graphics card. I was wondering, How does a 64mb GF4 MX440 compare with other cards?
I currently have a 32mb SDR Radeon (the original) and was wondering how this upgrade would compare to cards like a GF3 Ti or higher end GF4si. It's an MSI card I'm after so I should be able to get a good overclock out of it with a bit of luck and some fan ducting.

if you can you would be better off staying away from the mx range of geforces. AFAIK the ti 4200 is prob the best value nvidia at the moment. For low range cards you could do worse than the 9000 pro. But it really depends on what games you play. You'll probably get the full range of opinions here. I find that it is difficult to get older cards for anything like a decent price. the radeon 8500 full edition would not be a bad buy if you can find it cheaply.

I want to play GTA3, CS, UT2003, Doom3 and get a good 3dmark score.
I have maybe 50 quid to spend at most. (pound symbol isn't working in X, will when I restart)
The main feature I am after is a proper Linux driver rather than the normal DRI support and a better fbd as this will help my rendering and gaming if I get proper GL drivers. |

I have a GF4 MX440 64mb in my other system and it works great. It's no powerhouse mind you, but it plays CS, Castle Wolfenstein, and UT2003 just fine.

If you are looking for decent drivers for linux then an ati card is no recommended. I had a geforce3 ti200 until recently and it is a very good card, it wont play doom3 probably but everything now runs fine on it including ut2003.
This is where I got my geforce3: http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-se...cturer&cs=Home
at £59 its with your budget,Geforce4 ti4200 will set you back £110.

I think your GF3 will probably play Doom 3. I've had a GF4 MX440 and it wouldn't play many games. Jedi Knight II, NOLF2, and several others. Kept getting the error message "No T&L hardware support found". Upgraded to a GF4 Ti 4200 128mb 8x card and haven't had a problem yet. Getting 128mb may be the way to go as games that require alot of memory for rendering will choke on 64mb. I believe a Ti 4200 with 128mb is at a good price/performance ratio and a little more future-proof. |

The GF3Ti200 is better than the GF4mx. Not really worth the upgrade for me I think. Doesn't look too big an increase for the money that could be spent somewhere else. (such as a motherboard or PS2 game) |

just say no to MX cards. the GF3 ti 200 is the card i have and i love it to death. The mx card is slow clocked. |
