PCMCIA video cards

Hello!
I am looking into buying a VPR Matrix laptop from Best Buy, but the graphics card is only 16MB. Does anyone know if it would be possible to buy a better graphics card that could go in the PCMCIA slot? If so, any suggestions on where to purchase one? Thank you!!

Nope - not for PCMCIA. That card slot can't handle something like video, though there are some sweet home studio audio cards. But honestly - if you want better graphics, get a better laptop. Check out Sagers!!
ATI 9000 w/ dedicated ram for video - very nice, like the Alienware Area51 (EXACT same laptop).

Yeah, the only laptop I'm aware of that will let you upgrade the graphics card is a Compaq and unfortunately I can't remember the model. Airman97 has one though (he's the fellow that showed it to me) and he'll be able to give you the info regarding weigh, price, model, etc... Unfortunately you'll have to wait until the weekend at the earliest as he's traveling right now.

If you want a good laptop that can be upgraded then get a dell inspiron 8500 or a dell latitude d800. They both have the geforce4 4200 card and can get 3dmark2001 scores of over 9000. The thing about the top of the line dell laptops is that they actualy have a mini agp port that the gfx card plugs into. So when dell starts selling a better video card with that laptop you just call up the dell spare parts division and ask for a replacement video card for your system and get the newer card. The d800 model is highly mobile with long battery life. Dell makes real laptops with true performance unlike sager/alienware which i will never own. Just my 2 cents
