    Dual LCD worth it?

What about a Dual 15" LCD for my next setup due in early autumn?

    I`m an avid gamer though...

will it be worth the money or not?

I have around 2000$ for the setup and I`ll stick with AMD for sure.

    dual 15" lcds for gaming?

15" is too small...you're maxed out at 1024x768 and will need to buy a higher end model with fast pixel speeds to prevent ghosting. 17" is a better fit but will run more money...probably around $1000.

dual 17" or 19" CRTs would be better bang for the buck and give you excellent picture quality for gaming.

I know CRTs are better for gaming....the only problem is that they are big. I have a Multisync FE950+ and it`s so heavy and big you can`t believe!

try looking at a smaller footprint model...you'll get some nice screen sizes w/o taking up too much desk space.

but i think 15" lcds will be too small. if you're firm on spending $2000 and can get the pc for well under $1000, then dual 17" lcds are in reach...just be prepared to pay.

hmm only a 1000$ for my new PC...I don`t think I can live with that! I was hoping for the new CPUs like the Athlon 64 along with some nice hardware.

Alright then I think I`ll look at the CRT then.

    Thanks

Um...for that kind of money you could go with Dual Dell 18" LCDs and still have enough left to build up a nice PC.

Gosh $2000 to spend on a computer..isn't that enough to buy 5 computers? (nice ones)

yes I`ve heard of good things about the 1800 series Dell LCDs.

Everybody says that it`s a perfect LCD and even with its 30ms response time will have NO ghosting at all in games!

It`s the first time I`ve this kind of money to spend on a PC.
I don`t care about latest hardware and stuff just some good parts for some good gaming that`s all.

if you guys have any imputs on a system let meknow by the way

if your going to go with an LCD, get the one you want. otherwise you'll spend alot of money and get a dumb LCD that doesn't do what you want. so basically, go all the way, or just get a CRT. the Dells are a very nice LCD, I purchased one for a client a while back. very pleased.

My input would be: Don't plan on spending 2k. There is no computer on the market that will give you 4 times the performance of a $500 setup for 2k. It just doesn't make sense to spend that much unless it's free money or WORK requires you to have a very fast system.

I personally have no use for the latest, fastest best components. The budget model of the higher end stuff is more my style.

    Radeon 9700, 9800, nah....give me a 9500 for way less.

GF4Ti4600? Why, when the 4200 absolutely rocks for a fraction of the price.

P4 3 gz? Yeah, right. Give me a AMD Barton 2500, I'll settle for second best & save a bunch of money.

    For my money I'd build:

    a KT400 or nforce2 based system
    AMD Athlon XP...perhaps a Barton 2500
GF4Ti for under $100 or perhaps a Radeon 9500 for more.
    80 gb 8meg cache Maxtor
    512mb of DDR
    & whatever else you need.

Can you build a much nicer system than above? sure. But the above system will run very nice & not cost very much.

Also, don't write off a Dell, there are some pretty amazing deals to be had on Dells these days. You can't build them that cheap.

    Thanks for the input implexant

I`ll try and get a Dual 1800FP if I can rise some good money!

I`ve read somewhere 10 minutes ago that LF will be releasing a 12ms response time LCD!

    -----------------------------------------------------------

MDdan you`re absolutaly right about what you`re saying.

The system you described there is my actual system.
    ABIT NF7-S
    Barton 2500+
    1GB Kingston HyperX PC3000
    Geforce3 Ti2100

    I LOVE IT!
My video card is a bottleneck right now. I`ll give this setup to my dad and I`ll buy a new one!
Probably I`ll built a similar PC.

    Thanks!

You won't be able to use your 3d-glasses with them, they only work with CRT technology or fast green phosphor CRT projectors. They also can work with dual LCD projectors (multiplexed) or certain DLP (Texas Instruments Dgital Light Processing) projectors in single mode or all of them in multiplexed dual mode.

I know I can`t use them anymore. I have not make up my mind yet. CRT is the best option, I know.

LCD is still not developed a lot for gaming and versatility.

I`ll wait a bit for the second generations LCD.

you know what I can do! I just spoke with my father who loves RTS games...like Age of Empire or Alpha Centauri (he really loves this one I don`t know how many times he finished it), and he wants an LCD maybe. So I`ll buy him a nice Hitachi 174W or a Dell 1800FP and I`ll get an LCD too.

THen I`ll hook up the LCD in a PCI card for Desktop working like spreadsheet and music....DVDs....and use my CRT for Gaming!

    How does that sound?

Im running a 19" CRT and a 17" LCD as soon as I can I am going to be going with 2 LCDs. I figure my eyes are already shot why not? Seriously though it all depends on what your more intrested in.

LCDs have more brilliant colors, whule CRTs are better for your eyes and perform betting with things like gaming. Also as you said CRTs take up alot of space and LCDs do not. So basically it is up to you in the end if it is worth it or not.

My advice to you would be to weigh out the pros and cons of each setup and then based on that make a decision.
