Question ATI or GeForce, Ti or FX

I got $150 to $180 to spend on a card and am having trouble deciding, am leaning towards FX5600 DDR256 going for $177 (pricewatch.com) but am not doing heavy load of graphics work, occasional gaming, some home video editing and maybe some light Photoshop and Flash work and mostly website designing. I also looked at GeForce Ti4600 and TI4400 and ATI 9100, 9500 and 9600. I want a 8x card, and also can some suggest a good mfr. is Prolink or Albatron or Abit any good or does it matter.
    Thanx

    Welcome to TechIMO!

It depends on how much you want to spend. If you dont think you do enough gaming, get a Geforce. It sounds like you wouldnt benefit much from the latest and greatest, but if you want to go that route, the ATI 9500 is a good card. For the extra money, the ATI 9600 is on a .13 micron process and should OC well(if you do that).

I would suggest an ATI Radeon 9500 of a G-Force 4 Ti 4200. These are the cards that 2 of my friends have and they do gaming, video editing, photoshop, flash and web site design, they work great for all different things.

Albatron and Abit manufacturers are good, but I never heard of Prolink. If you do overclock, the Radeon 9600 PRO would do wonders, at the maximum, it performs on par with the Radeon 9700 PRO. Your budget that you have is well within the price of the Radeon 9600. You should use the Resellerratings product search as pricewatch is pretty much full of resellers trying to rip people off

The good thing is the newer cards (eg the FX5600) support DX 9.0 and the older ones (like my Ti4200 golden) don't.

You may want to consider that in your purchase for the longevity of the card.

VIVO means video in + video out. Which means you can hook up external devices to video card.
