ATI mobility Radeon 9000 driver

Hi, everyone,

I have a question. I have a Dell laptop, which uses ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphic card, it was great.
But recently everytime I try to start up, I get this blue screen, and an error msg says "c0000415, Unknown hard error", and it seems that the graphic card is not working properly.
Does anybody have experience with this problem before? I heard that the Dell version of the graphic driver is very buggy, and I am trying to find a general driver. I did a search on google, and on ati.com, but didn't find anything. Anyone can help me find a more stable driver?

Thank you for all your help.

Mobility drivers come ONLY from the laptop manuf. there is no generic driver.

You might be succesful in using some other laptop manuf. driver, but that's only 'might'.
Tecra S1 has r9000mobile, try that. I have it, and works fine.

Manufacturer-provided drivers are often bloated for ATI Mobility chipsests.

Generic mobility driver? Here ya' go...

http://www.omegacorner.com/

Omega's drivers are compatible with all Radeon chipsets, including Mobility models.

How does he hack the drivers? It is really just a matter of editing the installation INF with the proper strings. Still, he does apply a vareity of great rendering tweaks in the installation package to increase performance and 3D image quality.

Hope this helps,
Robert Richmond

guaise: Did you already solved your problem...? I have a Acer Travelmate 803LMI and I experienced the same error that you describe after a while playing with I-L2 game (a flight simulator game). After this, I was not able of boot up my laptop again.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, thanks for bringing up this thread I need alternate drivers for the S1 (regarding the powerpoint problem I posted here, and to which I didn't receive a solution).

//edit:

//edit2:

Hello-

I am having the same problem with my computer also, it is an ACER Travelmate 800LCi. It was working fine until I tried to install updated drivers and then it cam up with "c0000415 Unknown Disk Error". I have reinstalled the recovery program and the original drivers do not work either. Also, I had a Windows XP CD and installed a frash copy of Windows XP and that worked, but my graphics are horrible. Everytime I install any Radeon drivers I get the same error message. The Omega drivers did not even work. Any thoughts on what might be wrong or should I call and tell Acer to replace my hard drive or video card.

Please Help!!!

I have already sent my laptop (ACER travelmate 803LMI) to the Acer Care for technical support. They started to work with my laptop last monday, 10 of november. I called them thursday and they told me that they were testing the laptop ......? It seems that they don´t know what is wrong.

It is supposed that they should repair my laptop in ten days. So I expect to have an answer this week. If anyone knows anything else, please post it here please.

Thanks.

Toni

I looked at the original drivers (from the laptop manufacturer), particularly their inf file. Took the identify string->
[ATI.Mfg]
"Mobility Radeon 9000" = ati2mtag_M9, PCI\VEN_(here's my vendor id and stuff)

and pasted the line to the omega drivers inf file.
