| Whats the deal with this "9800 Pro"
Ok, so I'm at newegg looking at 9800's, they no longer sell the Saphire Non-pros . (I'm staying the hell away from 5900's, the thought entered my mind for a nanosecond, then I remembered that I actually want to PLAY HL2, Max Payne2, Doom 3 and Sims 2, not watch a slideshow) I now look at 9800 Pros, and I come accros a $306 saphire card. Upon further inspection it looks to be on 9700 PCB, it even uses the same freaking power connector as the 9700!!! Well, this is the cheapest 9800 Pro I've ever seen but I wonder if its just a remarked 9700 Pro. After all, after some researched I noticed that the 9800 SE with RAM in a straight line is really just a remarked 9500 Pro. Well heres a link to a few pics of it. http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage....102-304-01.JPG
and scroll down one and you'll see a listing of it on newegg. http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...2C8X%2CAGP%2CB
No reviews on it yet, so I don't wanna take a chance and end up getting a 9700 Pro thats OC'ed AND renamed a 9800 Pro. Just need to know if my suspisions are anywhere near right on on this. If this is a true 9800 Pro, then I'm gonna jump right on it, if its not, then I'll just get the Tyan for $325 or, IF I can hold down the anticipation for a new card, wait for the Radeon 9800 XT wich comes with a game I was gonna buy anyway, so for $25 more I get a kick arse card. Eh, now Im just thinking too much, I've got the cold and , ok, I'm going to bed, good night guys
Peace out |

havent seen any factual info on the remarking, especially with the 9500, i am leaning to that being false. i wouldnt go with the first one. |

Sixf00t: i dunno about 9800's, but one store did sell remarked 9500's as a 9700pro.
Juan: lots of companies use the same style PCB with newer cards. If its not broke dont fix it, right? Have you checked out pricewatch.com to see if there is a better deal out there? |

Their are but none from any resseller I want to buy from. I may just head down to best buy get a Built By ATI 9800NP and flash the bios, if I screw up at least I could bring it back and say it was defective and get another one. BBA Radeons are $300 at Best Buy BTW, what do you guys think? |

$300 for BBA and its at store for instant return if need be. Buy it. Dont wait. I got one of the last NP 9800's at newegg two Fridays ago. I know. Dont kill me...hehe. Twas $250 but man it rocks. Weird thing is software ID programs tell me its true BBA not sapphire. Since sapphire makes BBA cards for them I assume it maybe right. Either way its a friggen awsome card. 15,600 some on 3dmark 2001se stock clocked. Very happy.
