Resolution / Refresh Rate Problem
I have searched the forum for an answer to my problem but didn't find anything that helped, so my apologies if I'm retreading old ground.
I'm currently using an old system with Pentium II, ATI 3D Rage Pro & Samtron SC-428VS(L) monitor (maximum resolution - 1024x768).
I had Windows 2000 Pro installed up until last week, and I could use 1024x768, but only at a refresh rate of 43hz interlaced.
I've been told that I should be able to run it at a higher refresh rate than this though.
After reformatting last week I had to install Windows 98se.
Now I asked around and was told that this O/S should be able to run at 1024x768 too, but quite simply it won't. I tried some programs I found called HzTool, PowerToys, QuickRes & MultiRes which looked like they might be an answer to my problem, but no.
Anyone able to help me out with this please?
(Or perhaps tell me that the information I've already been given is false)

Have you installed the drivers for your video card? This could be the reason that you cannot set the res to 1024x768. Win98se has no limit on resolution, the only limitations are the monitor and video card. If the drivers are not installed for the video card, Windows will limit the display to 640x480 @ 16 colors (4 bit).

Well I never install any drivers seperately for my video card, just Windows whether it be win98se or win2kPro.
Both of these I can use at 800x600 32bit, but win2kPro I can bump up to 1024x768 aslong as I drop the refresh rate to 43hz Interlaced.
I updated the driver for my video card with microsoft update, still only works in 800x600 though.
Thanks for the suggestion

You may be able to get higher refresh rates with the monitor driver installed.

Well, that's truely f**ked up my display.
It now says that my max resolution possible is 848x480 and I can't get any higher.
