graphics card problems

I have just bought a PNY Technoligies Verto GeForce FX 5200 graphics card and when plugged into my pc, it will not boot. My motherboard is a PC400 P4 M925 series. Are they not compatible or am I doing something wrong?

its probably just not seating into the slot correctly..unplug the power supply..pull the card out and push it in firmly and try again.

Yes, check to see if the card is seated fully, but if that's not the problem, some additional info is needed:

What exactly does the computer do when you try to boot??

What OS??

What card did you have before, or does that board have onboard video??

Did you uninstall the old video card drivers and remove it from device manager before shutting down and physically removing the old card??

My OS is Windows XP ,uh, you can hear the fans start but the boot screen wont start, my monitor wont engage. It has onboard graphics and I disabled them in the device manager and still nothing

Check in BIOS under PCI Plug&Play setup and see if Primary Graphics Adapter is set to "AGP". According to the manual, that should allow both the onboard video and the AGP slot card work simultaneously.

I didn't see any setting that allows you to completely disable the onboard video, but look around in BIOS, it might be there somewhere.

Just keep track of any changes you make in BIOS, so you can change them back again if necessary.

Good luck.

Thanks man. Could it be possible of my AGP slot being 1.0 instead 2.0 or higher as required for the graphics card, and how can I tell?

Thats a pretty new board - it supports up to AGP 4x, therefore it should be AGP 2.0 compliant.

disable the on board videocard on cmos setup press delete rapidly when booting up so you can enter the cmos setup also read your motherboard manual for reference..

did you hear a single beep when booting up? or a beep beep beep sound?

but most mobo with built in videocard automatically disable when you put a videocard on slot.

hope this helps
