My Monitor is flickering bad.
Video Card - Ati Radeon 7500Le
Monitor - 19" Viewsonic G790
This is what’s going on. I set up the new puter, plugged in the monitor and got a bad flicker. My Display settings were at 256 colours and the refresh rate was set at 85 Hertz. So I changed to 32 bit colour and the flicker was still there. I then changed to 16 bit and the flicker went away, but when I did a restart the flicker came back. Now... It doesn't matter how I change the settings (ie. 256, 32bit, 16bit) the flicker goes away and comes back after a restart. Weird eh...?
I have the correct drivers for the monitor and the latest ATI Drivers. I have checked win2k HCL and the Vid card is listed. I don't know what to do about this.

I don't know if this will work, but have you tried to reduce the refresh rate when you were changing settings? Some monitors will not act properly if the refresh rate is set too high. |

maybe when you change colors the refresh rate went back to default? As in, maybe you cant change both at the same time but have to do them one at a time etc.
Maybe try it at 16bit color and 72hz to see if it will hold that.

1] is the monitor an interlaced monitor, or is it noninterlaced? Probably not, these days...
2] refresh rates can go beyond monitor ratings, the monitor might modify what gets displaye in order to compensate for the bad refresh rates.
3] vertical refresh rates depend on resolution - the whole refresh range does not apply for all resolutions. |

Thanks for your replies... I have tried all sorts of combinations for the colour setting and refresh rates but every time I restart the dang thing it flickers again. I have also tried to change the two settings seperately in between reboots. I don't know what to try next.
"is the monitor an interlaced monitor, or is it noninterlaced? Probably not, these days..." How do you tell?

Sounds like a bad monitor, but it would be great if you could test it on a different machine.
You know how to change the refresh rate, which is the only setting you need to adjust for flicker... could be a bad video card, but I don't think so.
I'm sure your monitor is non-interlaced, being a fairly new monitor.

The monitor is actually 4 years old. But it's not bad... I'm using it on my other machine... That gives me a thought... I'll be right back. |

I guess I should have mentioned this... Sorry I forgot. I was going through A KVM Switch. I disconnected from the switch, went direct to the puter, shaged my settings and did a restart. All'sgood now. I'm thinking not to use a KVM switch for the initial install.
Thanks for all your help.

Huh...? I don't think I've seen that movie. What happened? |
