Wide-Screen LCD Monitors ?

I kept waiting to get an LCD monitor 'til I found a good PIVOT-To-PORTRAIT type I could afford. Finally got a 19" Dell FP1900.

But I've noticed that some go the other way and are W-I-D-E-screen.

So what is up?

I assume they are for DVD movies--but I've seen DVD on widescreen Tele's and the letterboxoing STILL shows on at least 50% of them.

Also.the central stuff seems more important than the end-zones in the Net.

So, what good are the wide screen jobs?
Opinions?
Facts?
Tales fum da Front ?

And can that Letterboxing be gotten rid of ?

My girlfriend has a widescreen tv and here are my thoughts on the black stripes at the top and bottom of the screen...

I think that they are built into the dvd that you play because some dvd's have them and some don't. I was really hoping that her tv would display better than that when we got it so I was kind of disappointed.

As far as what are the widescreen LCD's good for...

They are very useful for all sorts of things. Anyone who is doing any kind of creative work can benefit. You can keep all your tools on one side of the screen and still have your documents in their normal proportions on the other side.

For example...

lol the black lines are because the dvd is made for a different length/width ratio then your tv (widescreen). if you dont have a widescreen tv get dvds that are fullscreen instead of widescreen
