Need help with my integrated Video

Help. Please. I have a Gateway (I know, I know) and it comes with an integrated video card. I just bought a PNY Verto 64 MB SDRAM card but I cannot get it to work. I don't have the options in BIOS or in the device manager to disable the card that came with my garbage Gateway. I have an Intel 81810E Graphics Controller listed. There is no disable feature. I was told by the jerk-heads at Gateway to uncheck "Exists in all hardware profiles" but that did nothing. I placed the card in the PCI slot, plugged the monitor into it and got the "Check Signal Cable" message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to email me as well. Writerguy@hotmail.com

Connect your monitor to the onboard video, go into the BIOS and look under "Boot Options" for "Initial Display Device", change that to "PCI". Power OFF and switch the monitor over to the PCI card then power ON.

You probably won't believe this but I don't have that option in BIOS. This is what I have under Boot options:

Silent Boot
Intel (R) Rapid Bios Boot
After Power Failure
Wake on MOdem RIng
Wake on LAN
Wake on PMC

1st Boot Device
2nd Boot Device
3rd Boot Device
4th Boot Device

IDE Drive Configuration

That is all I have. Even Gateway acknowledged that I didn't have any options in BIOS to disable the integrated card. That's why it is so frustrating that I cannot do it (ie. it doesn't work) under the device manager. Any suggestions?

What model Gateway is it? What OS?

You could try this;

- Leave the monitor connected to your onboard video
- Boot into your OS and install the drivers for the PCI card
- After it's installed, depending on your OS, you could use the 'Display Properties' to make the PCI card the Primary Display device.
- This should at least enable the PCI card and let you use it. I'm not sure if you'll see all the BIOS stuff during bootup, but it should "turn on" when your OS loads.

It's a Pentium III running 98 SE.

"After it's installed, depending on your OS, you could use the 'Display Properties' to make the PCI card the Primary Display device."

Could you explain this for a layman like myself? Thanks.

UGH!

It won't let me install the drivers. It says "the graphic adapter installed in the system is not compatible with the current set of drivers." The other message is: "Installed Graphics Adapter not found."

What model Verto is it? It, or your onboard video may not support more than one display.

Are you using the drivers supplied w/ CD or d/l'd from PNY's site?

If the PCI video card does, then it's safe to say your onboard video doesn't. *cough*Gateway sux*cough*

**It is a Verto GeForce2 MX400 - 64 MB SDRAM PCI

Are you using the drivers supplied w/ CD or d/l'd from PNY's site?

**CD - but it won't let me doenload the drivers. Come to think of it, when I put the crad in, there wasn't even a "new hardware detected" install. Is that normal?

If the PCI video card does, then it's safe to say your onboard video doesn't.

**What does this mean exactly?

*cough*Gateway sux*cough*

** You ain't kidding! So, am I screwed?

According to NVidia's site, the GF2MX400 supports multiple displays. I would imagine your onboard video DOES NOT. That basically means, if you can't disable it in the BIOS or w/ Device Manager, then it ain't gonna work.

This should be the latest drivers for it. Give 'em a d/l and see if you can run the setup.

It is odd that there was no 'New Hardware Wizard', can you see if it's showing up in 'Device Mangler'?

Either way, give the driver setup a go and see what happens.

Sorry about the delay. I had to sleep. Nothing in Device Manager except for the integrated card. IS there and order I need to be doing this in? eg. download... insert card... disable other card. Any walk-through would be most appreciated.
