| DISABLING BUILT IN GRAPHICS CARDS
Hi all,
Have recently purchased a Blaster 5 FX 5200 Graphics card but cannot figure out how to disable the onboard integrated graphics card. The motherboard is a K7SEM and it is utilising BIOS ver 6. Have looked in the BIOS but there doesn't appear to be an obvious "disable Onboard Graphics Card" Key. Anyone know how to do this? I take it that once disabled I then need to remove the drivers from the control panel and then reinstall the new card?
Any help would be gratefull received.

Welcome to TechIMO!!
Have you checked the MB's manual for help?
There may be a jumper setting on the MB to disable the video.
Here's the site for the manual if you don't have it. Manual for K7S Series
Select the model series then select the model.
Bill

If your new card is AGP, just plug it in. The integrated unit will then auto-disable. If your new card is PCI, they will both work in parallel. |

Thanks for the replies guys. The card is working incredibly well with games and the like, but I cannot get the screen resolution any smaller than 800 x 600. It also for some reason comes up with two monitors not the one...stupidly I upgraded my girlfriends machine and now she is doing her nut because the screen size is sooo big.... anyone got any clues how to get out of this dilemma? |

Have you checked to see if you have the latest drivers?

I think smaller resolution makes the screen bigger, not smaller.
Try setting it to 1024 x 768, something like that. That resolution usually displays web pages full screen. |

Dallas thats exactly what I am trying to do. Unfortunately it will not give me the option. As I say it allows the option of two monitors (my computer always finds to even if I remove one) it finds a plug and play monitor and a default monitor. The default monitor will allow 1024 x 768 the plug and play monitor will not sadly I cannot change the actual default montior to the "default" monitor if that makes sense.... |

Well, I just loaded the display properties on my second monitor, lol.
Right click the wallpaper, Display properties come up. Two monitors, one shaded?
Select the shaded one, and click "Extend my Windows Desktop unto this monitor.
Click apply, the ok.
LMK how it goes.
Oh yeah, click on the monitor you want as, "use this device as my primary monitor".
the mouse pointer will go whichever way you got the two monitors 'oreinted", left to right, top to bottom, etc. |
