Are we there yet? ~_~

I know that CRT monitors are the best for CAD and gaming, but I'm getting sick of this 60 pound beast that's on my desk.

What I want to know is if the latest LCDs decent for playing FPS, using CAD, etc.

I heard about some new Samsung monitors that are suposed to be ALOT better for gaming then previous ones had been (SyncMaster 172x). If you guys have heard of any review on that one, or something else, or just your opinion on why LCDs blow for gaming, throw them here.

Thanks in advance.

everywhere I look people have been talking about the NEC lcd monitors they seem to have the best gaming abilities and don't have that draging blurr like many, not having the blurr and having a good 16ms respone time are needed for gaming.

I've heard NEC are good. What models are the best?

If you find a good brand with 16ms timing that is all you need for gaming. Personally I have a Benq FP767 and love it. I play counterstrike, TFC, Serious Sam, and NFSU on it and don't notice any ghosting. Best of all it's only about $350 for a 17" and can be had cheeper if you can get thier notoriously bad rebate to go through.

Lots of gamers use the Dell FPs.. they seem to have a very fast response time. You should check those out.

I personally have boughten 2 - NEC 1860NX LCD and using them with DVI (digital Video in) connectors.. works awesome in XP and no ghosting.

I highly recommend these monitors.

Oh and just so you know I have been playing Need For Speed Underground on my system (ATI 9500 Pro) and zero ghosting from the LCD with all the stuff cranked to the max in the game..

two other questions, one is amazingly silly.

#1 if I bought two NEC displays would my Asylum Geforce FX5200 256mb card beabe to suport them? I've heard bad things about the 5200, even though I've been satisfied with mine.

#2 the really silly dreaming question:

I've been looking at the SONY GDM-C520K for about a year. And since it's hideously expensive I've never seen a reveiw of it. Does anyone know what it's like?

THIS IS AN UPDATE: Yeah, ok hi, that Samsung has 16ms response. I like that, and everyone I know that has a samsung is happy with it. So unless you guys come up with 1.4453 reasons not to buy it I am. or you could just keep throwing stuff up to my questions above. that would be greatly appreciated

I'd get either an NEC or Samsung, both are good LCD monitor makers. Your FX5200 most- likely wont be able to support two LCD monitors because each requires it's own DVI ports or an adapter for more ports (not many video cards have two, not even my 9700pro it has 1 DVI and 1 normal port)

most likley the monitors will also have a standard port (not sure you should check and the one you use less could use standard 15 pin

Basic info: if it aint 16ms response time, dont get it. Look for high contrast ratios. Bigger is better. Also, LCD sizes are slightly larger than CRT sizes, so a 19" LCD is almost the size of a 21" CRT.
