The Earnhardts and RCR have written the book on restrictor plate racing in the modern era of NASCAR.
Waltrip took quite a ride and was pretty hot with the way the emergency crew handled it. I can understand their concern w/ immobilizing him and all... but he was crammed upside down. And like he said, He just flipped like 6 times, what the hell is one more going to hurt?

That stinks. I hate when Chevys win.

It was a good race although the restrictions (air, tires) made the race a bit boring. They keep putting all these changes in to avoid 'THE BIG WRECK' and it still happens every year. Let the guys race without all this crap all over there cars. Restrictor plates (I agree) the tire and air dams on the roof, they need to ditch.

Ok I've had the race on (low volume) and saw bits and pieces of it it, but had no idea who won til I read the title.
But, what are restrictor plates?
*btw, I agree with you, Sweeper; it's a race - not kiddie go-carts, danger is inherent. Let them race!

socal, it's a plate they put on the carb to reduce the amount of HP the engine can generate. If they weren't there, the cars could easily top 220. Then they'd run the risk of the cars getting airborne like Bobby Allison's did back in the early nineties and landing in the stands.
EDIT: It was 1987...after allison flew into the stands after reacing speeds of 210
So I suppose we'd be puching 240 these days w/out the plates.

A restrictor plate is a plate they put over the carb with smaller holes in it to decrease the amout of air and fuel that can be passed into the engine, effectively lowering the horsepower output of the engine, which in turn, slows the cars down.
Unofficial TechIMO record holder for the number of times being added and removed from beemer's ignore list.

I'll be the devil's advocate - Nascar? It's good for when I want to take a nap.

*EDIT* Besides, Nascar is rigged.

LOL Mike, you Nascar newb
. Actually i ususally time it just right so I can catch the first 50 laps, take a nap, and then catch the last 50. Works perfect that way.

Restrictor plates are a must for the larger tracks (Talladaga, Daytona) to reduce the amount of speed these cars can generate. Safety not only for the drivers but the fans as well as jmebonner stated above.

Well it was a special event for DE jr to win---his father was killed in the same race 3 years ago that he won 3 years prior...
----> Maybe I should have added that
