BUSH CONTINUES TO MISLEAD ABOUT 9/11
As President Bush visits a memorial for victims of the 9/11 attacks today,
he continues to refuse to clarify dishonest comments he and his national
security adviser made denying they had any warning that a terrorist attack
was imminent before 9/11. (1)
In May 2002, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice claimed, "I don't
think anybody could have predicted that [Al Qaeda] would try to use an
airplane as a missile." (2) Similarly, President Bush denied having any idea
about the threat, saying on 5/17/02, "Had I known that the enemy was going
to use airplanes to kill on that fateful morning, I would have done
everything in my power to protect the American people." (3)
The problem is that these denials contrast sharply with warnings the White
House did receive prior to 9/11. Specifically, the Administration was warned
before 9/11 that Al Qaeda was planning to use airplanes in an attack against
the United States and that the terror group had recently considered using
airplanes as missiles. ABC News and Dateline NBC reported that White House
officials acknowledge that U.S. intelligence officials delivered a
one-and-a-half page document to President Bush on August 6th that warned
that "bin Laden's terrorist network might try to hijack American planes."
(4, 5, 6) Those warnings came at the same time that U.S. and Italian
officials were warning that "Islamic terrorists might attempt to kill
President Bush and other leaders by crashing an airliner into the [July
2001] Genoa summit of industrialized nations." (7)
These warnings came at the same time top Administration officials were being
told to change their own personal flight plans because of "threats."
Attorney General John Ashcroft stopped flying commercial airlines and
instead began "traveling exclusively by leased jet aircraft instead of
commercial airlines" because of "what the Justice Department called a
'threat assessment." (8) (To this day, the details of that threat assessment
have never been made public.) Similarly, Newsweek reported that the day
before the 9/11 terror attacks "a group of top Pentagon officials suddenly
canceled travel plans for the next morning, apparently because of security
concerns." (9)

And how would it look to voters if he just up and said "okay, you're right, I lied about it?" Come on now. |

so Al Qaeda warned us of using planes as missles? so what? Not a whole lot we really could of done as we had no real idea when it was going to happen Why does this keep coming up?
Unless the person who wrote the article knows something that everyone else didnt espically the CIA,FBI, NSA
Perhaps Al Qaeda should of told us the exact times, dates, flights and people who were going to hi jack the planes
HEY Al Qaeda! Come on Seriously guys! Next time at least send us a nice warm greeting before you do something like this |

| Most Clinton-bashers said that's what he should've done and not denied or lied about the truth. Go figure, eh? |

How about if we had fired the foreign companies running the security at our airports and hired an american company.
Does anyone think that might have helped especially if the security companies had been told be a little extra alert. we have enough credible evidence of a pending attack that the head of the justice dept is now chartering planes to go fishing. |

Isn't it amazing how threads like this can devolve into name-calling and finger-pointing in less than five minutes?
Anyway, that's a good idea GZ3. Maybe all of the terrorists in the world will follow suit. Wouldn't that be especially helpful over in Israel? "Hey, we're going to bomb you tomorrow, please make sure you arrive safely!" (Keep in mind that I'm not poking fun at you, GZ, just making light and sarcasm out of the situation.)
As I said, Bush will never admit that he lied. He's got an election to win. |

what exactly am i ignoring Toad?
do you know if Bin Laden called up Bush the night before and said, Hey Bush! We are gonna steal some planes from you tommorow alright? Then we are going to fly them into certain buildings. One will be the White House so if all goes well you dont want to be there!
What exactly do you know that others do not know. please share with us, and perhaps next time we can stop such a tradegy again.
I do understand they had warnings that the terrorist were planning to make attacks using planes.
Okay ill take the bait, if they knew where and when, why didnt they stop it? We have had terrorist threats against us from everyone and anyone for many years. Its hard to tell what is real and what is not. With so many cut backs in the intellengence department (a certain president i wont mention his name) this might have been prevented. |

| I already told you that: the obvious.
Again, Clinton is bashed for all the intel he supposedly had on Al Qaeda and did nothing. Bush and his sidekicks had fresh intel to suggest that such a threat was likely and perhaps imminent. He could've done then what is being done now. He repeatedly gets high marks from some for all that he's implemented and how he has "saved us from further doom". It's very possible that he could've saved most if not all the 9/11 victims. But then the measures he would've/should've had to take would'nt have been politically correct. |
