huge story in my mind. I dont know who all is following this...but Taiwan used to be part of China...of course China went commie back in the late 40's or whatever and Taiwan went democratic instead.

So America is honor bound and legally bound to support Taiwan.

so far so good.

The only issue being that Taiwan considers herself to be sovereign.....but China considers Taiwan to be a district of China and therefore NOT sovereign. There is some document I am not too sure about...I think it was written by Kissinger...stating that there is "one China" and that Taiwan must not break away BY FORCE" (or something like that).

sooooo....China has OPENLY stated that if Taiwan tries to break away that it WILL start WW3. They also stated BEFORE the last election, when the current president Chen Shui-bian won, that if he in fact DID win..that THAT would start WW3.

I dont have the exact quote but when some Chinese diplomats were visiting over here...the comment was made to their American counterparts that "we dont think you will trade Bejing for Los Angeles"...or something to that effect....strongly implying that they arent afraid to go nuke.

Bush was asked the question "what would you do to help protect/defend Taiwan if China were to invade her"....his answer was "anything it takes".....a pretty strong statement considering that he hasnt really exxagerated his claims for the use of military force...he has fairly well done what he has said...so he isnt afraid to pull the trigger himself.

that means its a fairly taut tension over the situation....

----

so..that brings us to now....the Chinese elections are coming AGAIN....uhh...TOMMORROW!!!! and now Chen Shui-bian AND the femal vice pres get shot http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/asiapc...hen/index.html

The problem is that Chen Shui-bian has been making noises about having a referendum on Taiwanese sovereignty if he is re-elected.....to which CHina has restated again and again....the minute Taiwan tries to break away China will INSTANTLY invade...that Taiwan will NEVER be sovereign.

So this election is something to watch....it could have HUGE implications.

-----

by the way the French support the Chinese (communists)....while the Americans support the Taiwanese

Yea I was just a bit shocked to hear of the joint naval operations between France and China set up to be in view of the Taiwanese (I think it's today?) just before the election.

If it's Green party we may see alot of Red, Blue party seems to be the quieter of the two. I'm not sure who to cheer on?

You know, I was really agreeing with you up until I read that. You do realise that by saying (communists) is defining a nation, a populace, not just a group of 8 people.

The way JP describes things makes me believe that he thinks all Chinese are Communists. I'm also led to believe that he thinks that Communism is a form of government, which it isn't. And further, communism=bad democracy=good, which can only be true in certain situations, and not others.
FYI, the naval exercises were held in Qingdao, which is nowhere near Taiwan. If the Chinese had wanted to protest Taiwanese elections, they would've held their military exercise in Fujian province again(without the aid of a foreign power), like they've done for the past few years. Also the Fujian exercise not only practices naval roles (like that of the French-Sino a few days ago) but also aerial and land combat, esp. in securing a beachhead.
With all that said, are you trying to say that just because the French participated in an exercise, they are vile and evil? Or are you trying to link this back to the French role in not supporting US in the Iraq War? Lets not forget all those central Asian countries that've already held joint exercises with China: Russia, former Soviet states, even India. O yeah, they're all commie-supporters alright.

well Ben....you know..I love you too.

you took one line of my post and youre tryingto make the post say somethign it doesnt...but thats cool...freedom of speech and what not.

the whole POINT of my post was that Taiwan is having an election tommorow...and the incumbant just got shot today...and that there is an incredible amount of tension in the whole proceedings. And that China has declared repeatedly that WW3 will ensue upon Taiwan trying to break free...and that Taiwan wants to have a referendum on the hundreds of Chinese missiles aimed at Taiwan etc.......

...as far as I see..france and or communism were very minor points of my post....

so I said exactly what I was trying to say...im not usually one to hint at things.....the comments on france and communism were sort of "oh by the way" type comments.

--------

PS..I will agree...uhh, yes I have always thought of communism as a form of government, lol. So there are only 8 communist people in China? interesting.

let's see..lets go to www.china.org.cn to see what they say about themselves

http://www.china.org.cn/english/Political/26151.htm

-->from site----> "The Communist Party is the sole party in power in China.

Founded in 1921, the Communist Party of China (CPC) established the People’s Republic of China in 1949 through years of armed struggle.

The CPC now has more than 60 million members in more than 3 million grassroots organizations.

The CPC has established formal (through elections within the Party) and informal (appointed by the organization of the higher level) organizations within the Chinese government and various levels and walks of life in the country. "

----> With all that said, are you trying to say that just because the French participated in an exercise, they are vile and evil? Or are you trying to link this back to the French role in not supporting US in the Iraq War? <-------

uhh, I have enough keys on my keyboard to say exactly what I am trying to say, lol...so I dont have to TRY to say anything....YOU are mentioning Iraq, not me, lol...I didnt even mention any french/chinese naval drills or exercises....I just said france supports China...isnt that what I said??

You guys majored on the last line in my post, lol.

Anyway..... JP

(edited to fix link)

No, you misunderstand, the point I was trying to make was that you are making a HUGE deal out of them being communist, why? Do you have to do that everytime you mention a country, like America (democracy, pff hahaha) for example?

.

Later,
Adam.
