Kids holding up those "FREE GAS" signs

This may be a regional thing, but in Sacramento on two occasions, I saw kids holding up "FREE GAS" signs on neon poster stock standing near the gas station on the corner of an intersection. Of course, both of those times, I was driving the company car.

I was wondering if anyone has seen these, and if so, has stopped to inquire? Willing to share the details?

If you saw this in your area, would you stop, or would you assume it's some stupid scam to draw you in? I bet when you drive up to ask, they'll tell you you get free gas once you pay $20 for a car wash for $5 of "free gas".

Nope... They're legitimately just giving away gas. Completely free!

.. I can't believe those suckers who are actually going to the pumps. heh...

But no, I've never seen the signs... I can't imagine what they would be doing.

You get free gas with each $70 car wash, right?

It really must be a Sacramento area thing - I have seen them as well.

Never stopped, never bothered. I usually only see people trying to point newcomers in the direction to new apartments, or whatever.

Reminds of a movie or tv show once, don't remember which, anyways a guy was giving away "free" gas saying it was on him, was trying to get the chicks, anyways, turns out he was using a stolen credit card and was getting filling up peoples cars on the stolen credit card.

Might be what those kids were doing just to see how many people they can dump or either that getting revenge on someone by using there credit cards, who knows.

Would I stop. Heck no. Because im sure there is a line of people dumb enough to fall for it and I don't have the patience to wait in line.

Even if there was not a line I still wouldn't stop either. too suspious.

The only thing like it in our area are promotions where the gas price is (sometimes vastly) reduced. One radio station sets the price back twenty years (station plays eighties rock).
