Car Audio:Receiver:Is this one good?
I am in the market to replace my wal-mart Receiver. I was thinking about this oneKDC-MP925
They go for about $265 on ebay new. That is about my limit of what I can spend. Its this one good? Or should I get another one?Urban is back.

Looks like a pretty nice unit to me!
Personally I'm an Eclipse junky, but Kenwood makes some good stuff.
If you want to expand your sound system with amps and a sub, that'd be a perfect deck with the non-fading sub output. And they're nice 5V outputs to boot. Pretty standard now days, but the lower end decks don't put out that much signal. The amps have to do less work when they get a hot signal like that.

I would love to get an eclipse( i also have a Mitsu Eclipse). But this reciver just stood out. My car had a 7 year old eclipse deck in it until it died. Right now I have a Rockford Fosgate 1100a2 pushing a 12'' Rockford Fosgate HX2.

Hmm, I can get a pretty swank Eclipse deck, about the same level, for that price. Just depends on what your local car audio shops have.
Not familiar with that sub off the top of my head.
Like I said though, that Kenwood looks pretty nice. Stabbing myself for not putting something a little better in my mom's car (bottom of the ladder JVC deck), but then I didn't expect to be driving it around either.

Not a bad deck...as Whir said, you can do a lot better for that money, though. $265 is a fun amount to throw around - have you looked at other brands? Alpine? Eclipse? Pioneer?

I am with Wart. I strongly recommend looking into purchasing an Alpine or Eclipse for that amount of money. Alpine has several nice head units in your price range.

Eclipse doesn't resell through the internet. You have to get stuff through your local dealers.
I think Crutchfield has Alpine stuff?

I used to think Crutchfield was expensive too. Until I started looking around. They really aren't any worse than any other big vendor.

Ebay you can get stuff way cheaper. For that deck I want to get it would cost $450 while on ebay its brand new for $265.

www.ikesound.com. I've gotten a fair amount of stuff from them and i've been pleased. VERY good prices. Although i just checked and they don't have that kenwood in stock.
BTW, if you go kenwood, i would HIGHLY recommend getting and excelon series. They're just a lot better than the standard series. Also i'm a big kenwood fan and have an excelon head unit right now which i love. The one complaint i have though is the reciever isn't very strong and needs a signal booster. but that aside i think that kenwood makes excellent head units.Last edited by originel; May 8th, 2004 at 02:46 PM.

Its Sirius ready---make sure thats your choice if you go with Kenwood as they produce no XM units---(XM seems to be the most popular choice)
Good thing is the motorized front, no hassle of a removable face with that---
Check out Pioneer just for kicks...

eBay rules. Until someone rips you off. I'd rather have piece of mind.

Each to his own.
The Kenwood is a good deck.

Thankz.Thankz.
I am pretty set on the KDC-X869. Now for speakers. I have stock right now. I have a 12'' Rockford Fosgate HX2(sealed right now soon to be band pass) being pushed by a 1100a2(Rockford). As for places for speakers I have 6x9s behind me in the back.(car is a 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse). Then 6'' in the door(I think they are 6'' but if not I can always make a bigger hole.) I have a set of i think they are 3inch speakers in my dash near my windshield. I am thinking about getting a set of 5way 400watt(peak)Pioneer's. And some component speakers in the door, then something nice in the dash.
I am planning on amping these latter(money tight). I was thinking of either getting a 600watt 6 Channel JL Audio for $270. Or going with 2 kenwood EXCELON 600watt 4 channel amps and bridging one for the 6x9s. They are EXCELON which my deck is also so I can remotely control bass on the amp.
What do you guys think?Urban is back.

Dash speakers are 4" stock. Front doors are 6.75" but 6.5" and 5.25" will fit also. Rear are 6"x9", but 6.5" and 5.25" will fit also.
Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X178 will fit in the front doors.
Kenwood KFC-835C will fit in the dash.
There's nothing listed for the 6x9s, but Kenwood eXcelon KFC-XR901 are available. They might have too deep a mounting depth or something to fit correctly. Who knows?
