United States to update the 10 dollar bill?

    http://money.cnn.com/2004/06/08/news...ex.htm?cnn=yes

... with Reagan's picture instead of Alexander Hamilton.

Its amazing how many people start loving you after you die.

Conservatives will push for image of 40th president to grace $10 bill, $20 bill or dime.
    June 8, 2004: 11:34 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Ronald Reagan's face could one day adorn the $10 bill or half the dimes minted in the country, if fans of the late president get their way.

I don't think it's so much a case of "loving them after they die", I think they're doing it as a monument to the life that Reagan led, and I think it's pretty cool.

Is it required that you wait until somebody dies to do this is my point.

Changing the currency of the US is a very touchy matter. Because of its international trade stature, any change is feared to cause instability. They don't even like color changes which would help prevent counterfeiting.

Probably the quarter would be the best bet for a change.

I think it's pretty lame, I like the current $10 bill.

Now having a series of $1 bills like they do with Santa Clause during Christmas or with Bill Clinton as a novelty would be a good idea.

But as far as replacing the bill. No way.

    A nauseating thought indeed.

I think it's just a formality to wait until they're dead... it's pretty rare that anything like putting up a statue of someone or anything is done while the person is still alive. That'd be quite the ego trip! :P

Dang. They were all set to put my face on the $10 bill. Now I guess I'll have to wait until they issue the new $13 bill or the ¾¢ coin.

Of all U.S. officials and statesmen during my 45 yrs, he is the only person I would consider worthy of such an honor.

I'm excluding John Kennedy, of course, who has already been on the ½ dollar coin!

Let's put him on the million dollar bill. That way all his friends and backers could have one.

I can't think of why anyone would consider him worth of currency or coin.
As I said in this thread, http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthr...9&#post1113469
I am sadened by Mr. Reagan's death and more saddened by his long term illness.

However, the repeated lionization of Reagan is taking its toll. Having been one that lived through his presidency, I shake my head when I listen to a reporter that was in diapers during his presidency, characterize him as "the greatest president in modern time." In fact, those times were rather negative and his policies failures. His goal as president was to 'reduce the size of the government' and 'get gov't off the backs of the people.' When he retired, the government was 25% bigger than when he started and the gov't was much more intrusive. Many of our current problems, debt, the Middle East, etc. stem from his administration.

EDIT: He cut and run from Lebanon, giving terrorists the idea that if you hit the U.S., they'll run. He supplied Saddam with chemical and biological weapons that Saddam used to gas his own people. He supplied Osama bin Laden with weapons to fight the Soviets without bothering t find out what he stood for - as long as he was anti-Communist he was good.

The only thing more pathetic is the revisionist historians.

The problem isn't putting some ON the currency. It's who gets taken off? RR is not going to be on any $1. Father George isn't going to be dislodged. If RR is going to make it anywhere, it'll probably be the quarter.
