Come on, now. It's not like he will be able to sell them in bulk.

This can't be for real. Anyway, I think the government are going to be real interested about this sale.

You can buy and sell missile silos built before the limitation/proliferation treaties of the mid-60's. There is a even a private real estate company dedicated to just this type of property.

there are two silos near my house on the east coast. the government still owns and operates them...you can't get close (on a hike) without an armed guard stopping you. most people have no idea they're there.

one of the old Nike sites. I doubt there's the actual missles from the cold war in there...maitanance costs for coolant and leaks from the propulsion systems are two of the problems of the old sites.

lemme see if I can get some pictures the next time I go hiking there. the mountains' elevation is 211' ... and being on the coast, that's pretty high.

I find that hard to believe. Won't it make it easy for terrorists to set up base there?

it could be like those people who make homes out of old lighthouses...it's a cool place to live...not to mention cheap on heating/cooling...underground it stays in the mid 50*F range (on level ground, in an area whose soil thaws at least 4 months of the year)

you'd have to worry about radon gas, humidity, and critters, not to mention flashlights if the power went out!

(I'd invest in solar powered lighting inside for just that reason)

Popular Science did a feature story several years ago that started the public demand for these abandoned silos.

Be a neat place to set up a paintball or airsoft course. You'd have to net the crap out of the silo gangways though, wouldn't want people falling down the tubes.

    Doh !

    Yo !

    RobRich

Where would Social Security be now, if it had invested that 15 $ million in 1960 ?

Answer: Just as broke since it would have invested in Enron etc. !

At 10% growth, money doubles like every 6 1/2 years. Figure that one out, Folks.

For those who were not around in those days, the US and the USSR had already achieved the power to destroy the World before the 'sixties.

France's Nucleur Deterrent was set by France at 1% of the USA/USSR nuclear deterrent --the "credibility point".

France alone could destroy the World. It still can.

    MegalosSkylaki

P.S.Wasn't as much fun not to be the one who could more destroy it !

My plans for the three Silos if I am elected Vice President:

Silo #1: I giant Bungee Jump, free. Just pay to get out. Extreme Bungee Jumping (tm) You jump to catch the Bungee cord. No fee if you miss.

Silo #2: An underground skyscraper with a retractible dome. Rockclimbing in place of elevators. A total cylendrical design, with all floors having an equal view. 1$ bungee jumping to lower floors.

Silo #3: A giant Superbowl Stadium, with balconies to sit two million people. Free tickets for all those who vote for me, provided the Giants are in the Bowl. Bonus for Californians: The San Fransisco Giants can substitute for the New Yoirk Giants; a great idea in Cross-Sports in itself.

    A KERRY--DOOG Ticket !
    "Re-Cycling Idiocy" (tm)

I'd rather own a underground long lines vault. Don't have to worry about pumping water out of the old silo's, etc. One day I'll buy one. I know a guy who is selling one right now for around $500,000.00.

The best part of a long lines vault is that they are shielded from an EMP,etc.
